Beauty // Discovering Lush Skincare

Until recently I’d never actually tried Lush Skincare products. It’s one of those stores that I find quite overwhelming to enter due to the sheer volume of people buying bath bombs like they’re going out of fashion. But when an email dropped in my inbox inviting me along to the Liverpool Lush store bloggers event, I knew this was my opportunity to learn a little bit more about the brand. The closed door event was simple – around 40 bloggers attended the event so it was great to bump into new and old familiar faces and we could try a variety of the products and chat to the super helpful staff about the products that would work for us. So this when I made a beeline for the skincare! Moisturisers and cleansers are my bag so I was really keen to get a better understanding of the product range and try a couple out. My skintype used to be quite oily but as I’ve gotten older and switched up my diet in recent months I …

Beauty // Three Skincare Products I Swear By

Since I joined Slimming World I’ve noticed a real change in my skin. It’s probably down to the lack of chocolate and crisps I allow myself to eat these days, but now the adult spots are a thing of the past and I’m enjoying the clearer skin, I decided a couple of months ago to start looking after it properly. I switched my foundation over summer to a lighter, BB cream so wearing less make up has had a massive impact and I’ve always been a cleanse, tone and moisture kindal gal, taking my make up off as soon as I get in from work. But I knew I should be doing more than just using micellar water and any old face wash I can pick up on the cheap. So, I thought I’d share the three products that are currently living on my bedside table and I’m using daily. I’m really enjoying taking that extra 10 minutes each night to care for my skin and these are three products I know I’d repurchase again and …

Beauty // Holiday Essentials

I’m writing this post from the comfort of my sofa, with a small dog on my lap and Love Island catch up on the telly after spending the last 10 days in Marrakech. Morroco was everything I imagined – it was such a beautiful country, full of colour and hot hot hot! So, as I spent the majority of our holiday lay around the pool I decided to take a few snaps of the few items I couldn’t have been without!      I picked up this sequinned woven beach bag in the souks in Marrakech after spotting them on the high street before we flew.  I love to read on holiday as the rest of the year I don’t really pick up a book. And The Girl On The Train didn’t disappoint – it was the perfect holiday read!  After spending 10 days in and out of the pool a good shampoo and conditioner is a must. I picked up the Garnier Fructis range for coloured hair as I wanted my blonde to stay as …

Beauty // The Body Shop Blogger Event, Liverpool

On Thursday I was invited down to The Body Shop store in L1 to attend their bloggers evening. The Body Shop is one of those brands I’ve grown up with and associate with being a teenager, thanks to their vanilla musk range. But as the brand has grown their products have massively improved.. On the night they had 3 stations set up – a face / skincare station, body and hand care station and a makeover station. I beelined for the facial station as my skin needed some TLC! I’ve always been an avid cleanse, tone, moisturise kinda girl but thanks to long days at work, sometimes k forget. I was introduced to the Vitamin E range which works perfect with my skin type – oily, if you’re wondering and it targets aging too. I didn’t bother with a makeover as it was so nice to feel cleansed so I headed home after the event make up free! I also had a nosey at the Pinita Colada range that I’ve seen across various blogs. I …

Beauty // Morning Skincare Routine

Sometimes it’s nice to strip it back and write a post about things that you like. I aint gonna lie, yep I thought about Instagram when I took this picture. Cos over there it’s all about the flat lay, right? But, basically I just wanted to take a couple of quick pictures of a few products I’m loving. And then I thought why not add this cute print and frame from one of the My Little Box’s and a cute Primark make-up bag to the shot too? But I’m really only here to talk about the three skincare products. First up is this sweet Nivea lip balm. I got it in a set for Christmas but I started using it a few weeks ago applying it when I’m doing my going-out make up. I put a thin layer on while I do the rest of my face and let it sink in before I apply my lipstick. But I also discovered my boyfriend stole it when he had dry lips last week and now apparently …

Beauty // January Favourites

I don’t really feature monthly favourites but I’m really loving taking the time each morning to do my make up and then take it off and leave my skin feeling fresh at night.     So let’s start with Sure deoderant. An essential I’m sure you’ll agree. I picked this up in a pound shop and I love it! Defo gonna buy this again. I got this primer in a My Little Box and I’ve used it every day since. It just glides across the skin and my make up stays on all day. Again, this Keratise hair product came from a beauty box and I use it before I dry my hair. It doesn’t feel greasy and my hair looks shiny once it’s dried and straightened.  Ren is a brand I’ve always wanted to try but the price tag was always out of my budget. So when I opened this months My Little Box I was over the moon! It smells amazing and takes my make up with just one cotton pad.  And lastly, Sinple …

Beauty // Nivea Skincare

It’s been a while since I’ve covered beauty around these parts so what better time to get back into it than January! I haven’t touched a drop of alcohol now for 3 weeks and my skin and body are feeling so much better for it, but I need to re-address my skincare routine as it’s dropped off lately and I’ve been getting lazy. So, if I blog about it, I’ll remember to cleanse, tone and moisturise each night again! Nivea is such an old school brand, the one that you started using when you first bought moisturiser or face wipes with your pocket money in your teens. As I grew older I turned to niche products, but Nivea is always an old faithful. I love micellar water so I was excited to swap my current bottle of Simple to this one. It’s really gentle on the skin and it easily removes my make up in one wipe. Even waterproof mascara which is the devil to get rid off without leaving black marks! I don’t tend …

First impressions of La Roche-Posay

On a recent shopping trip I picked up a couple of La Roche-Posay skincare samples to try. Having heard big things about the French skincare brand I was eager to try these out.  I chose two samples of the effaclar duo+ which is a corrective serum that targets and corrects the appearance of imperfections.     I have quite oily skin and suffer from breakouts every now and again so this product sounded perfect. It was really nice to apply with a slight perfumed scent. But it felt really soft and I could tell it had been applied to my skin without leaving any greasiness.  All in all, this is a product I’d try again. I’ll have to take a look next time I’m in Boots!

My holiday nightime routine

Lately I’ve had a couple of nights away and I’ve got reducing my nightime routine to fit into my travel bag down to a fine art.  When you’re in a hotel you want your home comforts so you feel like you and these are mine.  Once I’ve showered and removed my make up with my Bioderma mercillar water, these are my go-to essentials.  I love the feeling of a freshly washed face and this gem from L’oreal leaves my skin feeling squeaky clean.  Next up is my face moisturiser. I got this bottle of Elemis marine cream in the limited edition Glossybox from Christmas. And a little bottle goes a long way!  It smells gorge. I use it with this Witch anti-blemish redness relief moisturiser.  On my body I’m loving this Cowshed body lotion. It smells really gingery so I feel lovely and clean!  Lastly I brush my pegs and hope into bed!

Kiehl’s skincare: A first look

Last week I blogged about THE PRESS TENT BLOGGER EVENT Press Tent blogger event which I was lucky enough to attend. At the end of the evening, we were gifted with a rather lovely bag to take home and I was very excited to discover it contained a couple of Kiehl’s skincare samples.    Kiehl’s is one of those elusive brands that I ooohh and ahhhh over in the Selfridges beauty hall but I’ve never quite taken the next step to purchase.  So when I saw these little treats I was quite excited. First up was the line reducing serum which is really light and smelt lovely.     Next I tried ultra facial moisturiser. This is the one I was ohhh’ing over earlier. I know right. It feels so soft and is just what I want when I’ve had a face full of make up all day. I have quite oily/combination skin and this didn’t irritate it at all, which sometimes can be the case. I’m already considering putting a dent into my pay day …

Soap and Glory favourites

Since the sunshine began to make a welcome appearance on the weekend, I’ve started to turn my attention to my head to toe skincare routine. For the last 18 months I’ve been a cleanse, tone, moisturise girl and love lathering myself in moisturiser after a shower, but with dresses weather (fingers crossed!) around the corner, now’s the time to make it mandatory. Soap and Glory are my longtime skincare favourites. Righteous butter is my number one but recently I’ve been branching out a little and these four little beauties are getting my skin prepped for the Summer months. This small perfectly proportioned tun of hand cream, buttercream and body scrubs are topping my list. They smell wonderful, leave me feeling clean whilst making my skin as soft as a babies – just what I wanted! I want to broaden my horizons and try the Soap and Glory make up range. I’ve read so many other blogger’s reviews of the mascara and brow pencils, next time I’m in Boots I shall have a goosey gander!

Make up removers: The best of the rest

Back in January I posted about my New Years resolutions and the biggie this year was to really invest in a great skincare routine. I have quite  oily/spot prone skin and as I’m not getting any younger, it was time to address the issue head on. In the past I have always used make up wipes to remove my make up on a day to day basis but with the amount of beauty blogs I read it was high time I upped my game and first on the list was a decent make up remover.   Back in January I invested in a blogger favorite and a bottle of Biodermia mercier water from an ebay seller. Biodermia is a brand I had read so much about but didn’t know whether the hype. However I was pleasantly surprised. It really does feel like water, strips off all my make up including waterproof mascara and leaves my skin feeling fresh. I can really feel the difference as my skin feels like it can breathe. But we are now …

New Years Resolutions: Skincare

New years resolutions generally tend to be a flash in the pan- lose weight, eat healthy, join a gym etc so come the 1st Jan 2013 I decided on one I could stick to and attempt to see through to the end. I decided to give learning to drive a second attempt. Having initially began to learn when I was younger and then subsequently quit as it got a little too stressful, I decided 2013 was the year I would master heavy machinery. So how did I get on? Well its a work in progress, but 12 months and 2 failed theory tests later, I’m still working on it. But the main thing is, I’m actually starting to like it. I mean I don’t love it and sure as hell can’t see myself with my own car in the near future, but I’m still working at it which is the main thing and hopefully 2014 will be the year I pass. Maybe.  I’ll keep you posted on that one. So back to the matter at …
