Food // La Tasca, Liverpool Review

Last week I was invited to visit the newly refurbished La Tasca based just off Queen Square in Liverpool. To be completely honest I hadn’t been to a La Tasca in quite some years, but I’m loving attending blogger events in the city so I headed down with my boyfriend in tow. We arrived at the restaurant at 6pm and I was impressed by the large outside dining space they have. It was a warm evening and with many of the outside tables occupied, it looked really lovely.Once greeted by the helpful PR team we were shown to our table, handily located in front of the kitchen so we could watch the chefs at work. The staff were lovely and so knowledgeable about the food, drinks and the history of the restaurant. It was really interesting to hear that the chain cater to two types of clientele – those who want to grab a quick bite but also they’ve began to turn their hand to fine dining. We were treated to a variation of the …

Food // Vapiano, Manchester Review

When I’m asked to choose my favourite kind of food I’m always torn but somehow Italian always comes out on top. So, when I was invited to visit Vapiano in Manchester I couldn’t say no! Handily located in the Corn Exchange, it’s really close to Victoria Station and really easy to get too. I was pleasantly surprised by the laid-back, relaxed vibe and how easy it was. I was given a card on arrival and shown to the different stations within the upstairs of the restaurant. Each station; pasta, pizza, risotto and salads, freshly make your order in front of you – so if you want less chilli or a little more garlic, you just say! Your order is processed on the card and then you present it at the end when you pay – so simple! I was spoilt for choice when it  came to ordering what I fancied to eat. I couldn’t go to an Italian and not get pasta, so I chose the Salvia. Fusilli pasta, feta cheese, sundried tomatoes and black …

Food // Leaf, Bold Street, Liverpool

On Good Friday the sun was shining and it was the perfect excuse to head into town with my Mum to browse the Easter sales and go for lunch. I’ve heard lots of great things about Leaf but never actually been. Locates half way up Bold Street, it’s neatly tucked away in between lots of independent coffee shops and eateries.       We arrived just after 12 missing the breakfast menu, sadly as it looked amazing! The place was full with many tables around us tucking into stacks of pancakes and Instagram worthy breakfasts!  The menu is short yet sweet with enough variety to tempt you. I settled on the grilled feta cheese sandwich whilst my mum went classic; steak ciabatta and chips. The hardest decision was to choose which tea to drink!  Leaf is aptly named for a reason with lots of varieties of tea. Eventually we settled on the Darjeeling and the baked apple green scented tea. Both lovely and the perfect lunchtime treat!

Food // A Trip to TGI Fridays

Last week we decided to treat ourselves to a school night trip to TGIs. Delicious American style food, huge portions and a lengthy cocktail menu – perfect! We visited the Liverpool branch based in the L1. We arrived at around half 8 and after a 10 minute wait at the bar, we were seated at our table. With hungry bellies we opted for a starter each before our main. The nachos and chicken wings were delicious and then I had the pulled pork burger whilst he opted for the steak, ribs and prawns combo. Safe to say we finished the lot!   It may be a chain but the food is delicious, which is just what you want!

Food: Ask Italian #AllAboutTheBase Event

Cos I’m all about the base, bout the base, I love pizza….. Last Monday I headed into Manchester after work to attend the Ask Italian All About The Base event. They were showcasing their delicious sourdough pizzas and the new spring menu. And they ever so kindly invited me along to sample the goodness! The food was just sensational. Platters of calamari with chips and a tasty sour cream dip on the side. Delicious slabs of pizza filled rare cooked steak, melt in the mouth cheese and enough veggies so you get your 5-a-day!      As part of the event, the Piccadilly Gardens based restaurant were hosting their final round of the #AllAboutTheBase competition. The finalists were putting their pizza base making skills to the test against a panel of judges! Thank you for the lovely invite, it was such a fun, foodie-filled evening. I’m already planning my next visit to the restaurant!

Food: Lucho Libre Liverpool

On Saturday I paid a well overdue visit to Lucho Libre in Liverpool. A delicious tapas style Mexican restaurant tucked away just off Bold Street, it certainly didn’t fail to impress.    I was in the city for a catch up with one of my oldest friends and we decided to start the afternoon with food and a cocktail. Why not on the weekend, hey?    I opted for the sweet potato and chorizo quesadilla and a side of piggy piggy piggy fries. Yep named thrice, they were a delicious batch of sweet potato and normal fries topped with pulled pork – delicious!           We arrived at around 3ish and whilst every table was full, there was a chilled out atmosphere and the staff were really tentative, without being too much. Sometimes in restaurants I find you can be asked if everything’s ok a little too much and that’s when it can grate. But Licho Libre were fab.  All three of us had a main and a side dish and the bill was …

Gigs: The Showhawk Duo/ Death Row Diner

A couple of Fridays ago, after many months of waiting, the boy and I took the day off work to go watch The a Showhawk Duo, do their thing. They’re an acoustic, 2-man band who cover rock, jazz and best of all, 90s dance tracks. They were playing at the Bierkeller in Liverpool and it was quite simply, fab! The atmosphere was ace and they really got the crowd going – so much so the place was up out of their seats and stood on the benches dancing along! We decided to try out the Death Row Diner beforehand. A dark, moody atmosphere teamed with boozy cocktails and yummy food, perfect right? I went for the buttermilk fried chicken burger with sweet potato fries whilst the Mr had the sirloin steak. We really couldn’t fault the food. Great service too, with the waiters advising me when I couldn’t choose between a handful of different dishes! It was a great day and I would reccomend checking out both The Showhawk Duo and the Death Row Diner …
