Beauty // Glitter Smokey Eye Makeup

Sometimes it’s nice to have a root through your makeup collection and rediscover old favourites. And that was exactly what I did when packing for my recent trip to Ragdale Hall. I’m really enjoying dark, opulent looks at the minute – vampy red lips and a bold eye. I know, I know, the MUA’s say one or the other but at this time of year I find myself reaching for the both. I love this eyeshadow quad palette I was very kindly gifted from the brand Me Me Me last year. The mix of pinky red shades and metallic golds work so well together when blended and it’s my newly discovered fave. You can use it to create a variety of eye looks – I’m loving using the berry shades across the lid to build up to a dramatic eye and then add a touch of bronze in the crease to add a bit of sparkle. I’m using it most weekend and I can’t wait to see their latest releases for this season. And like I …

Beauty // Make-Up Academy Haul

I’m a funny stage in my life where I’m intentionally opting to spend my money on homeware and good wine for the weekends, rather than on expensive make up…which use to bring me so much joy. I needed to upgrade my make-up collection and purchase a few items…but I didn’t want to spend a fortune.  After following them on Instagram for quite a while, I decided to give Make- Up Academy a go as I knew they were cheaper than my usual products but just as good. And I must say, I’ve been pleasantly surprised! This entire haul, of 5 items, came in at just £13 – including foundation, a lipstick and brow product. I picked up the Skin Define Matte Perfect foundation, Brow Define tinted brow mascara, a matte pink lipstick, a concealer and the Strobe and Glow Highlight Kit. I’ve been wearing the face items every day to work and it’s gotta be said…I’m impressed! My foundation and brows are staying put and the highlighter adds just the right amount of shimmer for the office! …

New MUA and Revolution Make Up Buys

I know I’m a beauty blogger but sometimes I go overboard stocking up new products. Base products and eyeshadows are  my favourite products to buy so when I ‘nipped’ into Superdrug earlier this week, I couldn’t resist the MUA and Revolution stands. Cover Up Ever since I got a sample of the Laura Mercier primer in the limited edition GlossyBox at Christmas, I finally get how important it is underneath my foundation. A couple of months ago I picked up the pro-base primer from MUA so this was a re-purchase. It’s less than a fiver too so it won’t break the bank. It goes on really smoothly and my foundation stay in place all day – even when I apply it at 7 in the morning before work. The second item I picked up was this pro-base argan plush concealer from MUA. I hadn’t used this before but I’m definitely gonna buy it again. It goes onto the skin really gently and it’s really easy to blend, covering my spots in a jiffy. It’s all …

July’s make up bag buys

This weekend I was at a loose end with a rare 2 days with absolutely no plans. After a trip to the hairdressers and a much-needed toning down of my beach blonde locks, I decided to go shopping. Now I’m trying not to buy clothes so I went with the next best thing – make up! Two of the items in the post were on my shopping list – primer and an eyebrow pencil. As we’re a week before payday I decided to go cheap and cheerful. My mum got me onto Primarks eyebrow pencils after she picked a cheap one up to try. This one is just the right colour for me and at £2 it won’t break the bank. My brows last all day from 7am till I take my face off at 7pm without any missing brow going astray! V on fleek! Next up was a new primer. Mine ran out about a week ago and I’ve felt the difference just wearing foundation straight on my skin. Again I wanted a cheap …

My favourite going out make-up

Going out out is a rare occasion for me these days, but when I do I love to take my time getting ready and applying my make-up. At Christmas I decided to treat myself to the Urban Decay Naked 2 palette and 6 months on, I’m still in love. It has lots of different shades so I can build on the colour to create a brown smokey eye on a night out. To match my eye make up I’m all about a bold lip. This Barry M lipstick has featured before but teamed with this Nars lip pencil which matches perfectly. And lastly I need to profess my love for the L’oreal infallible 24 foundation. It really is as good as the blogosphere makes out. I’m usually a loyal Estée Lauder double wear fan but this bottle is a great go. It provides full coverage without feeling too cakey. What are your make up must-haves?

Products I’m loving lately

Summer is officially here. I’ve spent the past week embracing my favourite sun dresses and sandals for work and it feels blaady brilliant! But I’m still tryna follow my whole “let’s shop less, Ruth” rule and this means my wardrobe remains chic and minimalistic, whilst my make up bag is bulging! A couple of months ago I subscribed to My Little Box. A beauty box from Paris with a difference. The May box included this super cute Provence print which really highlights how I’m feeling. Tired, and want to appreciate the little things in life. My beauty essentials  Maybelline baby lips lip balms are my absolute fave. They’ve been my everyday lip product for over a year now and there’s loads of different shades to choose from. I got a whole bunch from my lovely work friends for my birthday and this beautiful pink colour is my go-to. The May box included some gorgeous L’Occitaine toiletries including this mini body wash. I’m off to York at the end of the month and this miniature will …

My Make Up Bag

So, the bank holiday weekend has passed by so quickly in a bout of sunshine and showers. I have had quuite a lazy one this year. The year seems to have passed by so fast and I actually can’t believe we are heading into September so soon. So, a chilled bank hol was in order with a trip to Manchester on Saturday to treat myself to new make up goodies, a visit to Giraffe for dinner and a couple of drinks- rekorderlig and pimms no less. The Pride parade was making it’s way down Deansgate as we headed towards Spinningfields and luckily we caught it, in a gorgeous bout of sunshine before the heavens opened! Sunday was spent with the ma and we took the annual trip to Ikea to have a nosey at ‘house stuff’ and have the obligiotary hot dog- you absolutely have to don’t you! Then today I have well and truly treated myself with a shiny new netbook. It was a toss up between a netbook or tablet as I am …
