Home // Dear Diary

After a series of sponsored posts and beauty blogs, I wanted to bring you another site ‘down and write’ kinda post. I can’t believe we’re into December tomorrow. The year has flown over in a blur with this year’s stand out moments being getting a new job and our dog, Molly. As we gear up for December and the many festive nights out, Christmas meals and parties I’ve enjoyed being a home bird these past few weeks. We decided to go for a pub lunch last weekend. Something we did every weekend when we both lived at home but very rarely since living together so we went for lunch at the Saracens Head in Halsall. It was a perfectly cold, winters day so we had lunch and then headed home for a dog walk before it went dark. Perfect kinda Saturday. Last week I was kindly invited along to REX on Bold Street in Liverpool to attend their pop-up blogger evening for Kilner Jars. The store was so festive and sparkly. It’s such a magpie kinda …

Food // Wahaca, Liverpool

Yesterday I had my first works social in my new job. The sun was shining and after a long 4 day week, as soon as the clock hit 4.30 we downed tools and headed to Wahaca.  I’d heard good things about the chain and I’m a huge fan of Mexican food so it already got a thumbs up from me. Plus we were ready for a cocktail or 3!          The Liverpool branch is deceptively big, spanning three floors plus a roof terrace. When we arrived around 5.30 a couple of tables were taken, but they had space for our party of 6.  The menu was a lot bigger than I expected too with a choice of smaller, tapas-style dishes or big ears – meals for one basically.  I opted for 2 of the smaller dishes plus a side. I settled on the chicken tacos, a sweet potato and feta dish and a side of green rice and black beans. It was delicious and the perfect amount – meaning i had space for pina …

How-To // Dress Your Table for a BBQ

Summer seems to have surprised us once again with glorious weather and the Bank Holiday weekend was the perfect time to throw a BBQ! I love taking care when it comes to my home decorations and getting spendy in pound shops on cute tableware is currently my jam. Dining al fresco in the sunshine is so lovely but sometimes I find my outdoor tables (aka decorating tables) aren’t large enough to fit a feast on – and in that case, it’s time to take the party indoors and set up camp on the dining room table.    I decided on a blue table theme with a matching tablecloth, napkins and cute tealights to add some interest to my table. I’m really into wooden table wear too; ever since I snapped up my new salad bowl in Dunelm Mill a couple of weeks ago. When it comes to BBQ’s, I tend to go overboard by having a selection of crisps and dips, pasta salad, a huge salad bowl with a choice of dressings and the classic …

Life // The Sunday Edit

So daily blogging kinda dropped off didn’t it? I tried but this month has been kinda crazy. I started a new job in Liverpool, which means I’m closer to home and I now work in blogger outreach, which mom enjoying so much! And I’ve spent this weekend celebrating my 28th birthday…I know, I know i don’t look a day over 25 (lies)! So I thought I’d bring you a ‘Life Lately’ kinda post instead! 1. Earlier in the week I fancied trying out a new recipe and following the news about Good Food, I tried a new veggie pasta bake – delicious! 2. I love having fresh flowers around the house? I think they just brighten up my kitchen windowsill! 3. Al fresco cocktails at the Goodness Gracious rooftop bar in the sunshine made my Saturday. Amazing views. 4. Followed by more cocktails at Tribeca and food at Ruth Writes – Neon Jamon review. Yep, again. I loved it so much last week, I went back with bae.

Food // Neon Jamon, Smithdown Place, Liverpool

Neon Jamon wasn’t on my radar until I moved closer to Liverpool but since then I’d heard nothing but ravd reviews. So earlier this week, along with a group of friends, I went along to see what the fuss was about! I went with 4 friends and we were very hungry indeed, which is why we ended up ordering 15 dishes! The menu provided so much choice but a handful of my favourites had to be the cheese croquettes, mushrooms, potatas bravas and the mini burgers. It was fantastic value for money and we had a great time – chatting, catching up and working our way through the different dishes we ordered!

Food // What I Eat in a Day

I’ve wanted to do one of these posts for a while but my meals vary from day to day. I blogged this from a day earlier this week when I was off work.  At home I tend to eat a lot better / healthier as there’s less distractions and I don’t find myself craving chocolate either.  So here it is – what I ate in a day!  Breakfast – I ate breakfast at 10am after doing a workout on YouTube. I wanted something quick so I went for a bowl of plain Special K with a sliced nectarine and semi-skimmed milk. And a glass of water as I was knackered after exercising!     Lunch – 1pm and I was ready for lunch. I try to follow the Slimming World diet where I can and I’ve seen lots of Instagram followers rave about these thins. So I had 2 thins filled with red pepper hummus, smoked ham, lettuce & a smidge of mayo. Sour cream wholemeal crisps are my favourite so I had a packet and …

Life // Feeling The Blogger Pressure

Part and parcel of being a blogger these days is prep. When I first started reading blog posts they were diary-style entries with the majority of images taken on the bloggers’ phone. Outfit shots snapped in the mirror and product images taken wherever. But now, we’re dealing with a whole different ball game.    Just 6 years down the line, this little blog has undertaken a couple of re-brands including a name change (does anyone remember Musings of Ruby?!) and now blogging is big business. And this is where the pressure comes in. Writing up the post, taking perfect images to accompany, sharing across social media. Blogging is such a big business with so many of us creating amazing content – the pressure to get your blog to rank, grow and generate comments can sometimes make you wonder if it’s all worth it. I’ve said before that I don’t write to turn this into my career. I blog as I used to work as a Copywriter, but since taking a step away from Content and …

Life // Yearly Goals

Before I start this post, I must explain that I’m not the kinda gal who has loads of goals. Not cos I’m not ambitious or want to see/do things but because I’m kinda happy-go-lucky. Go with the flow. I like to plan my weekends and what restaurants I want to visit but I just try not to think long-term. I think this is mainly because you never know what’s going to happen. People change, circumstances change, you change. In the last 12 months I’ve changed jobs, choosing to go into a field I’ve wanted too for a while, but didn’t think I quite had the experience for. I’ve moved house; leaving home to live with a boy. And we got a dog. Something that defo wasn’t on the radar 6 months ago. But I have a couple of goals that I normally keep close to my chest, but thought why not share them and give them a shot at coming true? Own an expensive handbag. Yeahhh, so I thought I’d start off high priority, …

Beauty // Introducing Bean Burst

Every now and then I like to treat myself to a bath. It’s one of the few times you get to really switch off and unwind. No social media, no TV. Just light a couple of my favourite candles and use some of my favourite products. At the minute I’m loving trying out different body scrubs. I’m going on holiday in June so I’m trying to get into a routine of exfoliating now so my skin can reap the benefits when we’re away! This one from Bean Burst has a grapefruit blend designed to relieve stress and help clear your skin. It smells amazing thanks to the coffee beans and it did the trick – I can definitely tell the difference on my legs! This post is sponsored by Bean Burst. However, I didn’t receive payment & opinions are all my own.

Food // Honest Burgers, Notting Hill, London

One thing I really, like really, love is a burger. I’m even known by my friends for my love for a McDonalds. But there’s something about a juicy burger, piled high with cheese, bacon and loads of sauce that I just love. So, when we passed Honest last weekend I knew we had to call in. Honest Burgers aren’t available up North just yet but I’ve seen them on Instagram before, so I thought why not. Plus my Mum loves a burger too, so I was in great company! The shop, is that the right word?, is small but so busy. With only a couple of burgers to choose from we were both torn between the cheese burger with stilton, which sounded amazing or the one we both actually went for – the beef burger with cheese, bacon and onion jam. It was amazing. All burgers come with rosemary chips too, which I liked as normally you choose your chips separately It was just so good and I really hope Honest Burgers comes to Liverpool …

Life // How I Get Motivated To Write New Posts

Blogging motivation comes from many different places. Sometimes, there’s a recipe or beauty product I just want to talk about, a restaurant I want to share or generally have ideas for posts in mind. But every now and again, I get stuck. Stuck for ideas and inspiration. It’s that age old dilemma of, something I find interesting to read about, my readers might not. But then I remember my blog is my own and whilst we all secretly deep down want the comments, the likes and our posts to do well; I realise I’ve got to enjoy my content too. So I scroll through BlogLovin to see what my favourite bloggers are talking about or I google list posts, which give post ideas for times like these, when I get stuck. I want my blog to keep ticking over, new content featuring regularly and it to continue to grow, steadily, like it has over the past few years. And so, that’s why posts like this very one appear. A slight step-change from my usual content, …

Travel // Portobello Road Market, Notting Hill, London

Whenever Virgin announce their train ticket sales, my Mum and I are all over it, as we love our twice annual visit to London. Every time, we try to visit somewhere new and on Saturday we lucked out with the weather and headed over to Notting Hill. I’ve never been to Portobello Road before and we love to visit one of the cities many different markets every time we’re down South. Notting Hill in general was such a beautiful area to visit and the coloured houses and shop fronts looked beautiful in the sunshine.    We wondered along looking at the different stalls, selling everything from antiques to the most delicious-looking street food. We couldn’t pass the doughnut stall without picking up a HUGE custard doughnut each – which we later demolished in the sunshine in Hyde Park!    Halfway down the market stalls, I spotted a familiar pink logo along the row of shops – The Hummingbird Bakery! So naturally we popped inside and oogled every last cupcake trying to decide which to try …

Food // Holy Guacamole Mexican Recipe

When I’m planning a night-in at the weekend and I’m thinking about what to cook, usually there’s just one type of food on the menu…Mexican! Nachos, burritos, tacos.. you get the jist! I just love spicy Mexican food piled high with homemade guac, tons of sour cream and an (un)healthy topping of cheese! So, last weekend I got to cookin’ in the kitchen and rustled up a huge pan of chilli, cheesy nachos to share and a bowl of homemade guacamole. Plus, we had cocktails, cos what Saturday night in is complete with cocktails?!         Chillies are one of my favourite recipes as you can’t really go wrong. I pack mine with loads of veggies so I feel like I’m kinda being good to my body and make sure it’s well seasoned so I can really taste flavour. Oh and despite there only being two of us, I make enough to feed a small army so I’m usually still eating leftovers with salad for my lunches at work the following week! So, what do …
