Dresses: Dressing to suit your shape

This year I made a decision to only buy when I really want something and try and shop for my figure and what suits, rather than what I think looks good on the rail. I have discovered lately I just love dresses with sleeves and I think they’re super flattering and great for day and night.  Along the same thread, ASOS have really become my go-to lately as they are super great at delivery and I know I can count on my parcel arriving on time and I trust the sizings which is what you need when you are 14, but every now and again have a go at getting into a 12- and at ASOS with success! Dressing for your shape My figure is typically a pear. Hips, bum, boobs. But, it’s took me a long time to figure out what suits. After daliances with bodycon dresses which are a strictly no-go area, sleeveless dresses which don’t always flatter and shorts are just a danger zone. ASOS Top Picks This is my current wishlist of …

The Ultimate LBD

Well we are officially into the first week of December and party season is well and truly upon us with works do’s, nights with the girlies and family parties a go-go and finding the perfect dress to wear can be such a ‘mare. I’m such a dresses girl and love to dress up and feel fantastic. One thing I do hate though is after you’ve trawled the high street, you look and more importantly feel your best and then you walk into a party to see someone wearing the same dress as you. Not cool. I recently discovered Littleblackdress.co.uk and they have a gorgeous 17 piece capsule collection of dresses this Winter designed by fashion students at Salford University. Being a North-West gal born and bred, when I read about this I thought it was such a fantastic idea. Brand are really connecting with the customer lately through social networking and blogger outreach so using design students is a fantastic touch. I know brands have worked with fashion students before, namely Asos and River Island, …

Cath Kidston Wish List

I have always been a handbag girl. I’m generally not one for heels but oh I do love a bag and my latest love is Cath Kidston. The fabulous florals and spotty dotty prints are just so girly and perfect for everyday yet whimsical enough to feel like your in a fairytale. Having recently made my very first Cath Kidston purchase I am now a very proud owner of the light green and white spotted day bag and it’s safe to say it was love at first site. So much so that just a week later during a trip to the Trafford Centre I *accidentally* ended up purchasing a beautiful pale blue floral phone case, oopsie… So, with that in mind here is my Cath wish-list taken from the oh-so pretty website…… 1. Notting Hill Rose Day Bag– £48.00  2.  Small Spot Zip Bag– £24.00 3. Spot Weekend Bag– £65.00                4. Trailing Floral Day Bag– £48.00

Going-out Glam @ Next

When I think party season, glitz, glamour sequins and sparkle come to mind. In my book it’s all about dressing up, feeling good but cos I’m lazy I want minimal effort. My fail-safe item every Winter seems to be a fitted jacket. Whether it is  blazer or a leather I rely on a great-fitting jacked to complete my look. So, lets fast-forward to the present day. When I think of emulating a gorgeous look, Mrs Jamie Hince a la Kate Moss is the stand-out icon in my book. The way she rocks timeless pieces and isn’t afraid to re-hash her favourite black blazer every season makes her the reigning catwalk queen. Every year we go on the hunt up and down the high street searching for ‘the’ dress when in actual fact we tend to purchase a failsafe LDB so I think this Christmas I’m going to take a leaf out of Kate’s book and dig my favourite dress from last season out again and team it with a silver sequin jacket to update it and drag …

My Jeans Journey

Jeans are a fantastic staple in my wardrobe but I don’t know about you but I find it such a nightmare to track down the perfect pair. Finding the right fit, shape and colour is such a hard task as the high street is constantly changing and evolving to incorperate the latest trends and styles so the classic denim jean is never just that. Now, I am a typical pair shape (read small waist big hips, stomach region) and the low-rise styles just don’t flatter. I like a higher waist, a comfortable fit and a darker denim whilst a skinny-leg fit to offer shape. In my recent quest I managed to find the holy grail of the denim world. One minute I was browsing New Look without a care in the world eyeing up a gorgeous hue berry blouse then there they were. A skinny-fit, high waisted washed denim effect jean with a slight stretch just casually chilling between the boot-cut and boyfriend styles. With a 12 and 14 firmly tucked under my arm I headed to the changing …

Trend Report: Peplum

I cant believe we are nearing the end of September already. Just where have the past nine months gone? Its over a year since two of my favourites went travelling and during that time I have changed jobs and took a trip out to Australia to see them, crazy. However I do love the change in seasons. The colder weather means layering, winter boots and wrapping up warm. A/W fashion suits me down to the ground so I am slowly building my wish list before I take a trip down to London with the ma next month during my week off work. One trend I love at the moment is peplum. Whether it be a basic colour block top, laced detail peplum finish or a skirt or dress with the peplum detail, it is so easy to wear and is great with jeans or to jazz uo your look with a peplum finish dress. I really love the classsic Topshop peplum tops as they feel fantastic quality and I love the colours but I’m yet …

Xmas in July- Press Events

So this week I got to take a work trip down to London to the Matalan Xmas collection press event. I don’t really get the chance to go down to the capital that often so I really was a tourist armed with my camera! It was great to see how retail events work, meet and chat to some of my favourite bloggers and have a sneaky peek at the clothes due into stores. Whilst I was in town I managed to get to the Argos, Missguided, Warehouse and River Island events. They were all so different but the clothing was gorgeous! Here are a couple of pics from the day and the Matalan and Argos events- Matalan The Matalan was a fantastic day, yes I’m biased I know, and it was great to see key pieces across all departments. I will post a more detailed entry over the next week but for now, here are a couple of pics. To see more footage from the event check out the Matalan blog 🙂 Argos The Argos …
