Review: Laura Mercier Smooth Finish Fluid Foundation

Foundation is a staple tool in my make up collection, yet whilst I was a faithful user of Estee Lauder Double Wear for a long time, I have recently started to change my alliances and most recently, I’ve been swayed by Laura Mercier. I’ve read many reviews of the Laura Mercier smooth finish flawless fluid foundation on beauty blogs and during a trip to Liverpool on Saturday with my mum, we nipped to John Lewis and I picked up a sample to try. I was colour matched to porcelain ivory which is really light and quite similar to the Max Factor foundation I’ve been wearing recently. The MUA at the stand stated it is longwear foundation, similar to double wear and is designed to create a smooth, seamless complexion – and it does what it says on the tin! It goes on really evenly when applied over a primer and despite the sample only being a small pot, I don’t need much for even coverage. I like the heavy foundation look so I know I’m covered …

New Years Resolutions: Skincare

New years resolutions generally tend to be a flash in the pan- lose weight, eat healthy, join a gym etc so come the 1st Jan 2013 I decided on one I could stick to and attempt to see through to the end. I decided to give learning to drive a second attempt. Having initially began to learn when I was younger and then subsequently quit as it got a little too stressful, I decided 2013 was the year I would master heavy machinery. So how did I get on? Well its a work in progress, but 12 months and 2 failed theory tests later, I’m still working on it. But the main thing is, I’m actually starting to like it. I mean I don’t love it and sure as hell can’t see myself with my own car in the near future, but I’m still working at it which is the main thing and hopefully 2014 will be the year I pass. Maybe.  I’ll keep you posted on that one. So back to the matter at …

The beauty of magazine samples

Magazine samples are a thing of wonder but more often than not, I cast them aside. As an avid magazine buyer, (we’re talking around 5 each week), the stick-in samples can stock up. However, over the past couple of weeks I have been collecting them rather than binning and keeping in an old Glossybox- turns out they also come in handy for extra storage! They are a fantastic way to try before you buy many of the most popular beauty brands including Nivea, L’oreal and Herbal Essences. The  Nivea In Shower Moisturiser is a new one I’ve never seen on my trips to Boots or in magazines. As a keen moisturiser, I appreciate that sounds odd, I was intrigued by a moisturiser you can apply after using your usual body wash and then wash off. It didn’t leave my skin with any moisture from the touch, but apparently I don’t need to use a 2nd coating of moisturiser. A 2 in 1 I suppose! Another surprise sample was the new Herbal Essences Bee Strong Shampoo and …

The evolution of the ‘blogger’

I dont know what you guys think, but I feel there has been a shift in society of late. Bloggers are at the fore-front of the social world and growing. This year has been a big one for the UK with her Maj’s jubilee and the Olympics being held in our capital, 2012 has been exciting and I have loved observing how bloggers are being utelised to theuir fullest potentials. With McDonalds refermcing bloggers within thir Olympic-themed ad this summer and the amazing Google Chrome ad featuring The Cambridge Satchel Company, the owner, a lady named Julie as we learn in the ad, noticed the potential using bloggers had. And, we have only seen this grow with phone companies using bloggers to report from this sunmmer’s music festivals and culimating in an entire t4 show focusing on bloggers. However, the cynic in me, refuses to believe they were ‘real’ bloggers if you will. As a self-confessed social media geek I love reading articles on how bloggers are shaping the fashion world. Just this weekend, my …

My Make Up Bag

So, the bank holiday weekend has passed by so quickly in a bout of sunshine and showers. I have had quuite a lazy one this year. The year seems to have passed by so fast and I actually can’t believe we are heading into September so soon. So, a chilled bank hol was in order with a trip to Manchester on Saturday to treat myself to new make up goodies, a visit to Giraffe for dinner and a couple of drinks- rekorderlig and pimms no less. The Pride parade was making it’s way down Deansgate as we headed towards Spinningfields and luckily we caught it, in a gorgeous bout of sunshine before the heavens opened! Sunday was spent with the ma and we took the annual trip to Ikea to have a nosey at ‘house stuff’ and have the obligiotary hot dog- you absolutely have to don’t you! Then today I have well and truly treated myself with a shiny new netbook. It was a toss up between a netbook or tablet as I am …
