Beauty // The Beauty Rooms, Ormskirk Review

You may have read my latest beauty post about the fabulous Urban Calm shopping event in the Met Quarter, back in December, when I mentioned the brand had a smaller store tucked away in Ormskirk, West Lancashire? I’ve lived in Ormskirk for two years now and I love a regular pamper sesh as much as the next girl. Getting my monthly shellac nails is my treat to myself as I feel my best when I’ve got nails done. So when the lovely team The Beauty Rooms invited me along in-between Christmas and New Year, when we were all firmly in Crimbo Limbo, I couldn’t say no! The Beauty Rooms is tucked away, just behind Burscough Street and from the outside looks deceptively small. This was my first visit as on first impressions, I wasn’t aware the store did nails, appearing to be more a beauty treatment haunt, specialising in facials, waxes and lashes, but I can confirm, it’s my new go-to for my nails! Arriving on a super wintery day, I was ready for a …

Making time to relax

Life lately has been rather hectic and taking the time to relax and reflect has taken a backseat. So with this in mind, I’ve decided to re-educate myself in the art of fully chilling out. July is nearly up and it’s another month that’s left me thinking, where has the time gone?! Evenings are taken up putting my freshly renewed gym membership to good use, trying classes such as Pilates and a dreaded bootcamp for the first time.  So, with an evening spare, a stack of unread magazines piling and a bursting new posts BlogLovin, I’m sat down, pjs on and a bounty in hand.  Candles lit to chill out and my favourite Essie nail varnish ready to paint my much-neglected nails.  How do you prefer to relax after a busy week and find some much-needed me time?

Nail varnish obsession

So, I got an addiction. I’m gonna put it out there…I hate naked nails, on myself might I add. Some girls rock it well but I just hate the look of my hands when they’re nail varnish free. And so because of this weird habit, my collection keeps growing.  As I’ve got older I tend to go for nudes, reds and pinks. But every now and again a pastel or bold green joins the party! What colours/brands are you loving?

Real Techniques brushes dupes

Over the Bank Holiday weekend I decided it was high time to invest in a new set of make-up brushes so I took to eBay.     eBay is a goldmine of beauty hacks at a fraction of the price. So when I decided to search for new brushes there was a ream to choose from.  Generally Real Techniques are the mother of amazing brushes but I’m trying not to spend too much and these were a fantastic alternative.    I got an eBay professional kabuki brush set pack of 10 for just £3.95 with free delivery. There are in a kabuki brush style so it’s really easy to apply foundation, highlighter and blend my eyeshadow.  For the last couple of months  I’ve had gel nails but I’ve decided to have a break and these two Essie and Barry M polishes are my favourite!

Nails Ahoy

I’ve spoken about my love for nail varnish on my blog before, but it cant hurt to talk about it some more! I’m one of those girls who can’t have what I call, ‘naked nails’. Each to their own, but to me looking down and seeing nude nails is just vile. I love colour and painted nails fits into that box perfectly. I am quite loyal to a couple of brands, namely Essie and Barry M. Barry M is such a drugstore beauty; cheap and cheerful but with masses of staying power. I often favour a Barry M for my toes, but just recently a Barry M gelly green and dark green saw me through the 5 days at Glastonbury with minimal chips- ideal to hide dirty nails! Essie is a little more expensive but long-lasting and gorgeous colours. I find I have to travel to a larger Boots store to get a wider range as I seem to have bought out my local store’s stock, but they release new shades every couple of months …
