Buying Our House – What Renting Taught Me

Renting is a mind-field. Since we bought our house earlier this year we’re out of the trap, thank god. But if you’re a renter who’s saving for a deposit or, shock horror, someone who is happy renting and likes the flexibility of not being tied in, I’m now ready to look back on my experience fondly….kind of, anyway. When it comes to renting, there are a fair few things to take into consideration. Things that I didn’t think of when we first starting to look for our first house, now play a massive part in our decision-making process. HomeLet recently got in touch to ask what I would consider when selecting my and I would advise anyone looking to start to rent, or looking for a new house to let to consider the following… The age of the house (and condition) The age of the house and how well-kept it is is a huge factor when you’re looking to rent. If you’re buying, these are things you can change – but if you’re renting it …

Getting Engaged & Unecessary Pressure

I feel like I’ve taken a much more lax view to blogging lately. I’m enjoying sharing little snippets here and there and working with brands that I enjoy and want to share. I thought I’d check in with a little life update and to share these photos I took earlier this week. We’ve been in our new house for 8 weeks now and it’s slowly coming together. We can’t decorate just yet with it being a new build, but we’re enjoying choosing colour schemes for each room and having already got all of our furniture, we only need to buy the little things aka lampshades, curtains, rugs etc. The best bits essentially! I love having fresh flowers in the house and our bay window in the lounge is the perfect spot for a large bouquet of blooms. The lovely people over at Appleyard London got in touch recently asking if I’d like to receive one of their Purity bouquets,   I was more than happy to oblige and work with the brand. I’ve been torn on …

Life // May Favourites

It’s been a while since this blog had a strong beauty focus, and I mean even though I’m currently not evening wearing make-up to work, I’m letting my love for beauty and skincare products take over. Being in the new house means I love finding new corners to take photos and share on here and across on my IG. So, in the spirit of getting back to regular blog posts and creating the type of #content I want to share, here’s a handful of things, I’ve been loving lately – #BABESOFGLORY campaign Last month I was selected to join the fab Soap & Glory #babesofglory blogger campaign. Aimed at smaller, micro-influencers, I loved the idea behind it and as a long, long-time user of the brand, I thought it suited me and the posts I like to create, down to a T! I’m excited to learn more about the brand and share new launches with you! Lydia Millen x Take Flight podcast I’ve been following Lydia’s content for years now and I always look forward …

Beauty // Bathroom Makeover & Evening Routine

When we bought our house, we had a plan for the majority of the rooms but our bathrooms (yep, plural!) we had no idea. Our main bathroom was a blank canvas and we’ve enjoyed looking for accessories to make it a little more homely. We were both sold on the colour scheme – white and grey. Clean, serene and calming was the vibe I had in mind and I think we’re on our way to achieving it. Whilst I do have plans to add a large mirror above the sink and more tiles along the bath, blinds and greenery from faux plants, I’m pleased with how it’s looking after just 4 weeks. Having an en-suite on the top floor with a shower means this bathroom is very zen and used mainly in the evenings when we’re getting ready for bed. I have a selection of products that I’m using currently that have either been gifted or I have received via my Birchbox subscription. So, I thought whilst I’m showing off my bathroom, I’d share the …

Interiors // Dressing Room Decor

If you caught up with my last post or follow me over on Instagram, you’ll have seen that Darren and I have moved house. Into our first very own owned home. Leaving renting behind is a fantastic feeling but now comes the task of decorating an entire house! Whilst we’re lucky that we already have all of our furniture, decorating each room and maximising our newly found space is the next job on the list! We’ve utilised the different rooms, meaning Darren has a man cave and I get a dressing room, winner. Today I thought I would begin by sharing little snapshots of my dressing room / spare room as it comes together and my plans for the room. Dressing Table I’ve wanted a dressing table for so long – my own space to house my skincare, makeup and perfumes, without Darren leaving his stuff lying around. Over the coming weeks, I plan to add prints to the walls, a full-length mirror and a comfy chair to this room so I can use it …

Interiors // Top 5 Dreamy Interior Picks

Earlier this month, Darren and I began a new journey of becoming potential homeowners. Something we hadn’t thought we would be doing anytime soon, but as our 30th birthday’s approached, we bit the bullet and began to look for somewhere to call our own. As we continue down the very stressful road of buying our first home, I’ve begun to think about what I want from our first home. After years of renting multiple properties, it’s so exciting to potentially have rooms and spaces we can transform into our own tastes…no magnolia walls in sight! Top 5 Dreamy Interior Picks Dressing Table The first thing on my list is a dressing room/blogging space. In our current and previous rented home, we didn’t put much thought into the layout of the house and things we would like to have. But, the property we’ve been viewing has space for me to have my own dressing table and space to do my make-up, blog and store my handbags. I’ve been getting some inspo ideas on Pinterest and love …
