Balancing Work & Play – Almost Famous Xmas Menu & Dog Walks

It’s that time of year where the big C word is starting to creep up in conversations and I’m aware that I’ve only got a couple of paydays left between now and the big day…but it also means M&S xmas sandwiches will be in meal deals soon and we all must have seen that foot-long pig in blanket that Aldi are rolling out this year *insert heart eye emoji here* But it also means for us bloggers that we continue to make the rest of the world well jeal by being invited to fancy stuff; including Almost Famous Christmas menu! So indulgent, excessive and yummy. This whopping burger had burger meat, pig in blanket, a sausage roll and loads of extra good stuff stuffed between each patty. It was defo a handful and I enjoyed every second of shoving it in my gob! I’m spending my weekends loving the nicer weather we’ve had lately. God, that must be the dullest sentence I’ve ever written. Hale village is just down the road from us and walking …

George’s Great British Kitchen, Liverpool Review

If you’re ever stumped for somewhere to eat in Liverpool and you ask a mate for recommendations, they will probs reel of a long list of restaurants and bars to visit. Whether it’s date night, getting lunch in town while shopping or just want to see where’s the latest go-to; there’s a mass of eateries in and around the city centre. George’s Great British Kitchen however, has been on my must-visit list for a while. Darren’s a high school teacher meaning impromptu date nights during term-time are a no-go zone. But when a v lovely email landed from the George’s PR team at the start of the summer hols, it was a sign. We were finally going to try the latest addition to the food scene. And we were not disappointed. Handily located near John Lewis, I met Darren off the 82 bus and we headed on in. Initially we were struck by the decor. I didn’t actually know the restaurant specialised in fish and seafood so that was a pleasant surprise. Shown to our …

Revolution, St Peter’s Square, Liverpool

Revs is one of those places you think of for stag do’s, hen do’s and basically the place you used to head to on a uni night out for cheap drinks and shots. Being from Wigan, Revs is one of the places that I used to go to for food and drinks, so when the Revs St Peter’s Square branch got in touch inviting me along to trial the new menu, I was ready to go with a rumbling belly… We were invited along to review the lunch menu which compromised of a starter, main and a drink. The menu was separated into starters, sharing boards, mains, pizzas and burgers. We chose the Street Food Crate to share to start – filled with mini beef burgers, buttermilk fried chicken strips, two slices of pepperoni pizza, BBQ dusted chunky chips and dips. It was v v enjoyable and so moreish. However, upon receiving the bill at the end, the platter wasn’t included in the lunch deal so beware if you’re ordering using the lunch offer. It …

Life Lately – July Round-Up

July is another month that’s passed me by in a blur. These summer months are by far my fave thanks to the never-ending sunshine, enjoying great food and exploring new places on the doorstep. Here’s what happened – The lovely Laura over at My Foodie Journey headed over to the Titanic Hotel as I sadly couldn’t make it. The extremely picturesque Liverpool landmark hotel hosted an intimate bloggers evening of cocktails and canapes on the terrace. I’m told it was a lovely summers eve and the perfect spot to enjoy an #Instagram worthy drink or two. Thanks Laura for heading along for me! Towards the end of the month we headed across to Sefton Park to LIMF – Liverpool International Music Festival. Tickets were just a fiver and with a restaurant review planned just down the road, it was the perfect excuse to tick Trevor Nelson off the bucket list. Dancing along to old school RnB was just what the Dr ordered. The fiance surprised me with a wedding planner. We got engaged a couple …

Drinks // Mocktail Hotspots in Liverpool

I don’t know about you but the start of the New Year and the welcome of January signal many of us deciding to swerve the alcohol for the foreseeable future. It’s the month for getting re-acquainted with soft drinks, H20 and steering clear of alcohol for a while. Dry January is a real and whilst I can’t guarantee I can go the entire month without a glass of prosecco or two, I know that my body needs a break and opting for mocktails and alcohol-free drinks when dining out or even at home is a wise decision after a somewhat heavy festive period… The Brink One of Liverpool’s first dry bars and restaurants is The Brink, which you’ll find on Parr Street. Smoothies, mocktails and soft drinks are the order of the day, so why not make a pit stop during January to chill with friends or watch one of the live bands that play at the venue? TGI Fridays You may have given up the alcohol for a while, but no one said anything …

Review // Revolution Bar, Cavern Quarter, Liverpool

Revolution is one of those bars that you remember from your younger years. A variety of cocktails, sticks of multi-flavoured shots and everyone had a mate who had an elusive Revs card…meaning cheaper drinks for everyone! However, I was recently invited to one of the Vodka Revolution bars in Liverpool. Tucked away in the city’s famous Cavern Quarter and just backing onto Dale Street; I was kindly invited to sample their new cocktail menu, however, upon arrival it seems Revs are changing their ways as we were greeted with a beautifully decorated interior, marble topped tables and pretty low hanging light fittings. Once seated in our corner, watching over the seated area and having a nosey at what our fellow customers were ordering; we got stuck into the cocktail menu! Initially, we were spoilt for choice. I had a hankering for a pornstar martini, so I was happy to see one listed on the menu, but the rest was so hard to choose from! With a variety of the classic vodka, rum and gin cocktails …

Drinks // 3 Fruit Infused Water Recipes

During the week I drink a lot of water, usually averaging on 2 litres a day but with the sudden burst of spring weather, I know summer days are around the corner and one of the healthiest ways to get into shape and look after your body is by upping your water intake. Like I mentioned, I’m already a big H20 fan but it’s good to mix things up and adding fruit to your water not only switches up the flavour but acts as a natural detox. In collaboration with Highland Spring water, I’ve compiled my top 3 ways to infuse water to keep things interesting and to ensure I’m drinking my daily intake! Cucumber Infused Sparkling Water Starting off with an obvious one – cucumber. Whilst it’s often more likely to found in a glass filled with gin, adding slices of cucumber to either still or sparkling water is a simple way to add subtle hints of flavour as it infuses. Lemon Infused Still Water Next up, the most popular fruit to add to water – …

Life // Discovering Date Night

Date nights can be few and far between when you’re in a relationship, more often that not opting to switch your heels for your slippers and a night on the sofa. Now, we love a night in complete with a film, bottle of wine and yummy dinner but you can’t beat the feeling of getting all dolled up. I love going out for dinner and drinks so in a bid to make sure it happens more often, tastecard got in touch to ensure we leave the house from time to time! Because Saturdays nights on the town don’t happen quite as often, I love to spend extra time getting ready and choosing where to eat. Date Night Essentials Whether date night is staying in or heading out to try a new restaurant or you’re favourite haunt as a couple, there’s a few essentials that get you ready for a evening with bae- Prosecco. Always. With fresh strawberries too if you can. Pink lipstick. A date night essential. I love this cherry shade from Revlon. Polo’s …

Review // The Gin Explorer September Box

Since I met my other half a couple of years ago he’s tried his hardest to get me to like gin. An ice cold G&T is his drink of choice always, whether we’re on a night out or relaxing at home in front of the TV, that boy likes his gin. I’m only a fan with flavoured tonics, preferring a sweeter gin and elderflower tonic combo’s every time. So, when the lovely people at the Gin Explorer subscription box got in touch to ask if I’d like to review the September box I absolutely said yes! This was our opportunity to try different gins, experience new flavours all in the comfort of our own home – without having to pay expensive bar prices! When the box arrived through the post we were very excited to explore the contents and marveled at the box’s suitcase design – we knew from the off, this was going to be an adventure! Each subscription box contains 4 gins and 2 tonics to mix and match. Every box comes with …

Drinks // Be At One, Liverpool, Launch Party

Last week I dusted off my dancing shoes and headed to the luxurious Be At One launch party. A stylish new cocktail bar based on Seel Street; it was easy to see why this new haunt is set to become the talk of the town! Neatly tucked away on Seel Street, Be At One is wonderfully modern, full of colour and well practiced at making delicious cocktails! The interior really impressed me with a gorgeous neon sign on the wall and an amazing terrace complete with coloured stools – it’s that little attention to detail that really makes a bar stand out in my book. But onto the main event – the drinks! I had a look at the rather extensive cocktail menu – I was spoilt for choice with daiquiri’s, pina colada’s and mojitos on the menu in every flavour you could wish! However I stuck to my guns and went with my current summer favourite – an aperol spritz. Delicious! Once I’d snapped away I sat on the terrace, taking in the colour …
