Three Castle Street Restaurant’s To Add To Your Foodie Bucket List

Welcome to today’s #foodie post. I’ve been #blessed to eat at a few restaurants in town lately and wanted to share in a round-up situ and basically share with you the best stuff I’ve put in my mouth (ey) and cocktails I be dranking over the summer. So, without further a do, let’s get stuck in….

The Alchemist
A little while ago I was invited along to review the new food menu at The Alchemist. I’d never eaten there before and tbh, always gave the bar a wide berth at the weekends as it’s just so busy. So when an invite landed, I was definitely intrigued. We went along on a weeknight at around 5 ish and it was empty and we had the pick of where to sit, which was lovely. The menu was a lot more lengthy than I had imagined, with light bites, lunch, sharing platters, smaller mains and larger mains.

We went for cocktails, cos when in Rome, and then we ate –

  • Gyozas to start to share
  • Seitan Fajitas and the Mac & Cheese stack

Indulgent, yummy and v filling, plus the food and one round of drinks came in at less than £50 for two – bonus!

Castle Street Townhouse

An addition to Castle Street that’s been around for a while now, but I was yet to dine at… until now. We headed along on a Wednesday night, when they have a deal on for two courses per person and a bottle of wine each- ideal if you’re on date night, girls night or just in need of a wine… I feel you.

The decor is lovely and it had a great atmosphere too. Getting stuck in, gin cocktails and a pina colada ordered, we decided on the following to eat –

  • Hummus and flatbreads and  mozarella and basil arancini to share to start
  • Pan-fried salmon with a baby gem lettuce, feta and watermelon salad
  • King prawn Townhouse ceaser salad

Both dishes were delicious, with large portions. We also opted for two sides, cos no salad is complete without a side of carbs –

  • Warm new potato and chorizo salad
  • Truffle and parmesan chips

El Gato Negro Tapas – Exchange Flags

New to the city centre, El Gato Negro Tapas opened last week in Exchange Flags. #invited along to the launch party, I only tried a couple of canapes from the menu, but I wanted to share it as it’s such a good place to go for  drink thanks to the huge outside area and view of the Town Hall.

Being a stones throw from Castle Street, it’s a great place to start for a drink or head to for food after a few drinks in town. Defo one to watch!

Let's catch up
