Whenever I’m planning a night out in town, generally speaking Castle Street is my go-to. From Rudy’s Pizza, Neighbourhood to Santa Maluco, there’s a wide choice of places to visit all within stumbling distance of one another.
So, let’s discuss the new kid on the block – Black Barrel. A new rum bar nestled in-between Santa Maluco and Rox it’s got an intimate vibe about it, with a killer cocktail menu and a small plates food menu too, incase you fancy a bite to eat with your drinks.
I was very kindly invited along to the launch party and got to sample a few of the cocktails on offer, including the Pineapple Express, Latin Ice Tea and the flight board pictured above – a sample of three cocktails to whet your whistle.
Not just smashing it with the rum cocktails, the small plates menu has a great variety of meat, fish and vegan dishes. Trying the vegan and veggie dishes only, standout plates for me included the sweet potato wedges, fishless tacos, sweetcorn ribs and plantain crisps.
Each dish is packed with flavour and Latino Mexican vibes. I’m already planning a date night visit to Castle Street to get me a Latin Ice tea again!
