Beauty // Aldi Lacura Anti-wrinkle Day Cream, Review

Blog posts are few and far between around here at the moment whilst we still continue to live without the internet in our new house (thank god for free wifi on buses and trains) but it’s been so long since I’ve posted about beauty and I’ve really missed it. Not that I’ve bought many new products lately… Enter Aldi. The mecca of all things amazing. Cheap food, a fantastic middle aisle filled with gorgeous homeware and all the stuff you didn’t realise you needed. I think our entire home is 90% Aldi and I’m not mad about it. But I was yet to try the beauty and skincare products until recently… I love trying new skincare. I’m sure that nothing new if you’re a regular reader. High-end or supermarket – I’m a fan. And whilst Aldi is somewhat a dupe one-stop shop, I thought it was time to try out their skincare. Since we moved house, we’ve found our local store which I’m guessing is quite new thanks to the fab layout and huge beauty …

Men’s Grooming // Disposable vs Double Edge Razors #AD

It’s been a while since I’ve posted about men’s grooming, but as we hit the mid-way point of 2018, I’ve been planning my content for the next 6 months and this is defo a subject I want to talk more about. Especially getting my fiance (that felt weird to write…) to share his opinions about all things beards! If you are someone who chooses to shave, then you know all about the fuss of deciding which razor to buy. You stand in the shop for ages looking at all the different types with no clue what the difference is, apart from the fact that some have fancy patterns on them. So how should you decide what razor to use? I’ve been doing some research and found out about Double Edge Safety Razors, a more long-lasting solution to your shaving needs. I decided it would be worth looking at the benefits of switching shaving styles and put them in a post for anyone else who is having the same issue as me. So here it is, …

Travel // The Most Scenic Places to Visit in England #AD

England is so much more than its busy capital. It’s more than bustling cities of Manchester, Liverpool, Birmingham and Newcastle- as fantastic as these places are, they don’t show the entire picture of the UK. England is full of truly sensational scenery and landscape, and if you want to be wowed by the views or take some pretty pictures, here are a few places you could consider visiting. The Peak District The Peak District is most famous for its interesting terrains such as its stepping stones and limestone valleys. Located in Derbyshire in central England, there are plenty of Derby hotels where you can enjoy a relaxed stay in the country for easy access. When visiting the Peak District you get the chance to hike trails, explore caverns, visit a reservoir or view the opera house and other historic buildings. Nearby you have stunning Pavillion Gardens where you can see stunning landscaped scenery, beautiful greenery, plants and wildlife. Nearby you have a local village where you can soak up the quaint English way of life, …

Recipes // 4 Easy Dinner Recipes

It’s been so long so I lasted posted recipes on Ruth Writes. Nearly a year I think. If you know me in real life you’ll know I love to cook. I’ve followed Slimming World for nearly a year now and having successfully lost (and kept off!) 1 and ½ stone, so cooking tasty dinners that taste naughty yet nice is a must! So, expect lots of new recipe posts about meals I’ve tried, tested and enjoyed making. Just like these four… Sausage Casserole Sausage casserole is a firm fave in our house. I used Aldi’s skinny sausages, threw in loads of chopped veggies – courgette, mushrooms, leeks, peppers and onions along with paprika, chilli flakes and chopped tomatoes. Served with mash, this is a winner one-pot dish. In-a-hurry Curry Fried Rice Taken from my Joe Wicks, Lean in 15 cook book, this recipe does what it says on the tin. It’s really simple to make and fast too – great if want to eat fresh without spending all night in the kitchen. I love the …

Interiors // Dressing Room Decor

If you caught up with my last post or follow me over on Instagram, you’ll have seen that Darren and I have moved house. Into our first very own owned home. Leaving renting behind is a fantastic feeling but now comes the task of decorating an entire house! Whilst we’re lucky that we already have all of our furniture, decorating each room and maximising our newly found space is the next job on the list! We’ve utilised the different rooms, meaning Darren has a man cave and I get a dressing room, winner. Today I thought I would begin by sharing little snapshots of my dressing room / spare room as it comes together and my plans for the room. Dressing Table I’ve wanted a dressing table for so long – my own space to house my skincare, makeup and perfumes, without Darren leaving his stuff lying around. Over the coming weeks, I plan to add prints to the walls, a full-length mirror and a comfy chair to this room so I can use it …

Life // Things I Loved in April

Life lately has been busy. Manic, in fact. Whilst I do plan to talk in full about everything that’s been going on (if you follow me over on Instagram, you’ll see we bought a house and got engaged. Yep). Whilst our move is still on-going, I thought I’d check-in and share what I’ve been up to in April across Liverpool! We’ve moved to South Liverpool so with a new house comes a new area to explore, dog walks to try and restaurants to eat at. Throwing our 30th birthdays into the mix too, it’s all go. Things and places I’m loving lately The Florist Unless you’ve been under a rock recently, you must have spotted the latest opening in Liverpool city centre. The Florist is beautifully decorated making it an Instagrammers dream. We went along to try their Sunday Roast, which was spot on. You can read my full post about The Florist in Liverpool here. Hale Village Coastal Walks We’ve moved house not far from Hale Village. Tucked away in one of the most …
