Month: January 2018

Life // Forget Instagram, Don’t Neglect Your Blog

Lately, I’ve noticed lots of conversations focusing on the blogging industry and how it will continue to grow and expand in the coming month and looking at the long game; the coming years. For me, I’m very much immersed into this world; through my day job as a PR & Outreach Executive and as a blogger who’s been typing out words onto the internet for eight years now. So, what’s the future of blogging? Well, 10 years ago this wasn’t a career. Now, it is. Not only is it a full-time job for the creators and influencers who share engaging, funny, relevant content across a variety of platforms, but those of us on the other side. The in-house and agency-led outreach teams, who work with brands to pitch, create, navigate campaigns. Sourcing bloggers, negotiating gifting and payment and meeting deadlines are hard work. I, in particular, work within an SEO-led agency. So my outreach campaigns rely on backlinks, supporting the SEO value of any one of clients across our portfolio. So sadly, Instagram followers and …

Beauty // Winter Skincare Solutions

Is anyone else just waiting for January to end so we can start to countdown to Spring and the hope that brighter mornings, light nights and we’ll no longer need our big coat every time we leave the house? The miserable weather and wind and rain that doesn’t seem to letting up and my skin isn’t thanking me for it. However, the poor weather means I’m investing heavily in my skincare routine, which let’s face it, is nothing new for me. Whenever I receive an email asking if I’d like to try a new product, I get extremely excited cos I adore skincare and discovering new products that add some much needed moisture back into my skin. So, I thought I’d share my winter edit of products that I’m currently loving… Skincare Heroes Australian Bodycare Anytime Balm This is a hero product if I ever saw one! Designed to be used on rough or tough patches of skin, it’s been a godsend over the past few weeks. It smells very minty, quite like Vicks and …

Beauty // New Products & My Take on Bloggers Working with Brands

One of the ‘perks’ if you will of being a blogger is you have a valid reason to try new beauty brands and products regularly. On my Christmas list this year you could have put money on finding my favourite perfume brand, YSL Black Opium and ‘new make up’ as a standard request. I love sharing new products on my blog and searching on Pinterest for photo and flat lay inspo as I genuinely love this hobby of mine and sharing my thoughts with you all. There’s so much talk at the moment surrounding bloggers working with brands and how these relationships/collaborations should work and my humble opinion is bloggers and influencers should of course, be pitching to brands. I work as an outreach & PR executive within a digital marketing agency, which means I have a variety of brands on my client portfolio and run blogger outreach campaigns for the majority. As a third-party to brands, it’s our job to educate our clients on how partnerships with bloggers actually work. Payment is still seen …

Health // How I Meal Prep & Remain ‘On Plan’

Meal planning is my favourite hobby. I admin this used to be shopping, but I don’t do that much anymore (read hardly ever) but I love choosing new recipes to try and meals to make. I find planning our meals for the seven days in the week, helps me stay ‘on plan’ with Slimming World, resists the temptation of takeaways because we look forward to the variety of meals within the week and food shops are so much more cost effective. So how do I tackle this? Recipe Books We do our food shop on a Saturday afternoon so I start by looking through my recipe books for new recipes to try or ones I can adapt with food we already have in. My go-to’s are Jamie Oliver 5 Ingredients, Slimming World Fakeaways and Joe Wicks Lean in 15. I have a couple of recipes that are tried and tested and I like to find new recipes to try to expand our repertoire. Generally we have 1 veggie meal a week, 1 fish dish and …

Beauty // Four Fave Burgundy Make Up Products

I haven’t shared any new additions to my make up bag for a while, so here we go with a new beauty post of the products I’m loving at the moment. Burgundy is the perfect wintery shade and whilst we normally reserve it for December, I’m putting this handful of products to work well into the New Year too. Billion Dollar Brows First up I wanna talk about this dark blonde brow product from Billion Dollar Brow. I hadn’t heard of the product before they kindly got in touch, but I’m impressed. It has an easy to use applicator brush and it’s not too dark for my very light blonde brows, thank god. NYX Butter Gloss I’m such a fangirl over NYX lip products. The consistency, the variety of colours and the many collections just have me at hello. This lip gloss is from the Butter Gloss collection and oh my word, it does what it says on the tin. Easy to wear and long-lasting, this gloss is in a brown-nude shade and I love …

Beauty // January Birchbox x Ohh Deer Review

I’m back with another Birchbox review – this time it’s the January box in collaboration with Ohh Deer. I’ll admit, my views are mixed as my subscription rolls on… The Good Ok, so I adore design. It’s very kitsch and playful, which I love and I’ve spotted Ohh Deer designs on Instagram so it’s good to discover a little bit more about the brand. Out of the five products included, I’m a fan of the Paul & Joe foundation primer, the night cream and Lord & Berry cheek tint. I haven’t tried Paul & Joe as a brand before, so the box is the perfect introduction and I loved the cute bottle the primer came in. As I mentioned above, I was also pleasantly surprised to receive the Lord & Berry cheek tint. It’s the perfect peachy shade for Winter and as we transition into Spring. The Bad I don’t wear eyeliner so this piece of the box won’t really get used by myself. One to re-gift to friends or family! I also think in …

Recipe // Porridge Bowl With Coconut, Blueberries & Pago Drinks

Since the turn of the year I’ve swerved the idea of eating well as part of any new years resolution, but I’m back in the Slimming World zone with my meal planning and variety of meals. So, I thought I’d kick off getting back into the swing of recipe posts with a new recipe post. I generally tend to have porridge or muesli for my breakkie and with winter being well and truly underway, porridge and a mango Pago Fruit JuicePago Fruit Juice is a good place to start! Vanilla Porridge with Shredded Coconut, Blueberries & Peanut Butter   Ingredients  Porridge oats Vanilla extract Blueberries Almond milk Shredded coconut Peanut butter Choosing porridge toppings is my fave as it’s the easiest way to add flavour and pimp up your breakfast! I decided to add shredded coconut, blueberries and peanut butter to mine. My Fave Healthy Brands I also like to have a glass of Pago fruit juice too. I was recently introduced to the brand and they have loads of different flavours on offer. We …

Fashion // Buying The Handbag Of My Dreams

Ok, so I’ve always been a handbag girl. Ever since I can remember, I’ve lusted after new bags and for years I was always working towards my next bag. Back when I was 16 and got my first job, I remember heading to Debenhams to the Fiorelli concession when I’ve saved up to treat myself to my first ‘proper’ handbag. It was black with fuchsia pink ties on the handles and it was love. So, fast forward 13 years and I back fangirling over Fiorelli bags once more… I’ve been on the hunt for a stylish backpack in soft leather that I can use for work and at the weekend. And over a month ago, I found the one. This red backpack is just a dream. Its super soft, a cute mini size whilst still being big enough to fit all my daily bits inside and I adore the chain detailing across the front. I spotted it back in November but at full price I couldn’t reason splashing out so kept checking back in the …

Food // Heavenly Desserts, The Strand, Liverpool

I don’t know about you but when going out dinner, along with the routine of reading the menu hours in advance I also like to take a look at the desserts on offer. You know, I case I have room. (Jokes, I always have room for dessert). But Heavenly Desserts makes the choice super simple… Joining the Liverpool food and drink scene, you can find Heavenly Desserts on The Strand. Just a stone’s throw from the Hilton and opposite the Albert Dock, its picturesque location makes it perfect for locals and tourists alike and you’re bound to stepping through the doors when you see what’s on the menu! As the name suggests, this dedicated dessert-only restaurant is home to a variety of delicious hot and cold sweet treats. If you’ve got a serious sweet tooth or sugar craving, I recommend hot-footing down to Heavenly Desserts. Visiting on a wintery Saturday afternoon, my Mum and I were kindly greeted to the well-dressed staff and shown to a window table. If you’re in a hurry I suggest …

Beauty // The Beauty Rooms, Ormskirk Review

You may have read my latest beauty post about the fabulous Urban Calm shopping event in the Met Quarter, back in December, when I mentioned the brand had a smaller store tucked away in Ormskirk, West Lancashire? I’ve lived in Ormskirk for two years now and I love a regular pamper sesh as much as the next girl. Getting my monthly shellac nails is my treat to myself as I feel my best when I’ve got nails done. So when the lovely team The Beauty Rooms invited me along in-between Christmas and New Year, when we were all firmly in Crimbo Limbo, I couldn’t say no! The Beauty Rooms is tucked away, just behind Burscough Street and from the outside looks deceptively small. This was my first visit as on first impressions, I wasn’t aware the store did nails, appearing to be more a beauty treatment haunt, specialising in facials, waxes and lashes, but I can confirm, it’s my new go-to for my nails! Arriving on a super wintery day, I was ready for a …

Drinks // Mocktail Hotspots in Liverpool

I don’t know about you but the start of the New Year and the welcome of January signal many of us deciding to swerve the alcohol for the foreseeable future. It’s the month for getting re-acquainted with soft drinks, H20 and steering clear of alcohol for a while. Dry January is a real and whilst I can’t guarantee I can go the entire month without a glass of prosecco or two, I know that my body needs a break and opting for mocktails and alcohol-free drinks when dining out or even at home is a wise decision after a somewhat heavy festive period… The Brink One of Liverpool’s first dry bars and restaurants is The Brink, which you’ll find on Parr Street. Smoothies, mocktails and soft drinks are the order of the day, so why not make a pit stop during January to chill with friends or watch one of the live bands that play at the venue? TGI Fridays You may have given up the alcohol for a while, but no one said anything …

Life // Can We Really Plan Goals for 2018?

When it comes to looking ahead to the next year and planning what I would like to achieve, I’m afraid I’m heading into it as blind as I did 365 days ago. 2017 was an alright year but not one to mark off in the record books. Nothing drastic happened, but we did move house as our old house was put on the market, I think my relationship strengthened making us a better couple and more aligned with eachother and our future, long-term goals and 2017 ended with a job promotion – something I’d worked towards for the last six months and I’m happy to say, finally paid off. But in terms of ‘big stuff’. The last 12 months were pretty plain sailing. So, when I think ahead to 2018, rather than try and align the stars and ‘make shit happen’ I’m ok to float along and see what comes our way. However, that said there are a couple of things I would like to achieve out of next year – Turning the big 30 …
