Interiors // Styling a Coffee Table

I’ve spoken about our home before but rarely post pictures. That’s probably because we’re in a rented property that isn’t exactly to our taste and the majority of our furniture is hand me downs still.  But I’ve vowed 2017 is the year I plan for change that, buying new pieces and investing in good quality furniture in the style we like. Instagram seems awash with new homes and picture perfect living rooms, and as I was getting twangs of envy, one very large John Lewis shop later and our lounge is looking a lot more like ‘us’. We were very kindly given the sofa from old work friends when we first moved in and it’s a cream leather two piece with a chair to match. As with many rented properties, our walls are classic magnolia. Our style is very modern, industrial yet cool. So when I spotted the black metal frame coffee table in the sale, I knew I couldn’t leave without it. The colour scheme is cream and black, with small pops of colour …

Review // Sapporo Teppanyaki, Duke Street

Japanese style food never really made the grade when listing my favourites cuisine, but a friendly, larger than life restaurant on Duke Street, Liverpool changed that! Sapporo Teppanyaki specialises in Japanese food, particularly Teppanyaki which is cooked at diners tables. Upon entering the restaurant we were taken with how spacious it is and decorated in a contemporary style. We arrived on a Sunday afternoon to find just a few fellow diners, but it soon began to fill up. Taking a seat at the bar, we had a look at the cocktails and mocktails menu. I opted for a prosecco and raspberry cocktail, whilst my partner chose a refreshing elderflower mocktail. The menu compromises of a variety of starters, including sushi, sushi rolls, soups, salads and hot appetisers. Keen to sample a few different dishes, we opted for two starters each to sample. I opted for an avocado and salmon style sushi roll and duck pancakes, and my partner chose grilled prawns and beef sushi. We picked at each other’s plates, sampling each dish and taking full advantage …

Fashion // Winter Pastels

It’s been a while since I last posted an outfit post, but during a recent Sunday lunch trip, I managed to convince the boyo to take a couple of outfit snaps. January and February are the coldest months of them all so I’ve found myself reaching for my pink coat, over the knee boots and hat and scarf combo. I asked Darren to take these pictures during a trip into Liverpool on the weekend as we had a lunch reservation booked. Expect another post later in the week about that but I wanted to share these few snaps. I picked this coat up from the M&S sale a few weeks ago as it was a bargain at half price, considering it’s still very much ‘on trend’ and such fab quality. I’m still loving my huge blanket scarf from Primark that’s seen me through the last few winters and these over the knee boots are still a relatively new purchase, that I got from Just Fab in October/Nov time after spotting them on Instagram! It was …

Recipe // Chicken & Chorizo with Quinoa

Just like everyone else out there I’m spending January trying new recipes, attempting to eat semi-healthily and attempting to resist the lure of ordering a takeaway! One pot dishes are my jam at the minute too so this meal was a ‘chuck everything in and see’ dish which worked perfectly! The smokiness of the chorizo complemented the chicken and the veg I added to the pot. Ingredients Chicken breasts x2 Chorizo 1 red onion Baby spinach – I use half a bag as it wilts so quickly Quinoa Passata Garlic Paprika Mozzarella Salt and pepper Chicken stock I began by frying the red onion, chicken, chorizo and seasoning in coconut oil. Once the chicken begins to brown add the spinach. Once the spinach has wilted pour in half a cup of stock and quino and leave to reduce down to a sauce and the Quinoa to cook. When it starts to thicken add the passata. Simmer for a further 10 minutes, make small holes in the sauce to add the Mozzarella to melt and serve.

Life // What Self Care Means To Me

Health and wellbeing is so important and very ‘on trend’ at this time of year. In a bid to beat the bulge and get a head start on 2017 we’re awash with images of gym clad bodies, green tea and salads. But for me self care is more than that. Personally it’s too cold to be eating salad, madness to go cold turkey on alcohol and too dark to be gym bound. For me, it’s a mixture of old and new habits. Eat Well. If your a long time reader of this blog you’ll know I love to cook. So taking care of myself and my boyfriend means yummy meals, full of flavour and veg to boot. Healthy doesn’t have to mean bland and boring, so I’m planning new meals from a variation of my favourite cookbooks. Why not try some of my favourite past recipes? Slimming World Tex Mex Chilli Veggie Curry Lemon and Garlic Roast Potatoes Goats Cheese and Red Pepper Pasta  Head Outdoors. Exercise comes in  a variety of forms. It doesn’t have …

Beauty // My 2017 Perfume Collection

After what felt like an eternity of wearing the same pefume on repeat, I decided to introduce a couple of new additions to my collection, including a perfume I’ve been listing after for months!!  The Luxe Edition  Every time I walk past a YSL stand I always have a spritz of the Black Opium perfume as I just adore how it smells! Sexy, sultry and with serious lasting power, I’ve wanted it for ages!  I love the shape of the bottle and how classy it looks on my bathroom shelf! Not your typical everyday scent, it’s my new nighttime go to!  Everyday Essentials  In contrast to the YSL, I wanted a new everyday scent and this is where my love for celebrity scents comes in!  Beyonce Heat is an old fave as it’s quite budget in terms of how cheap you can pick a large bottle up for. It’s quite a distinctive scent so it’s lasting but not too heavy. Perfect to spray on in the morning before work and you can still smell it …

January signals the time for change. Whether you’re sticking to new resolutions, making better choices or switching up your routine, now’s the time to do it. And I’m starting with my make up bag! In a bid to join the ‘new year new me’ gang I’m starting small by saying out with the old….and in with new rose gold Ted Baker products! I’m still on the saving money bandwagon so I’m trying new products and taking advantage of Boots many different offers with this new range from the Aintree Shopping Park I’m guilty of using old products for month and months so I’ve invested in new products to keep my face and skin happy! So let’s get to it! I first noticed the packaging with the mix of white and rose gold. Each product has been well designed and will stand out in your make up bag or on your dressing table. Recipe // Sweet Potato Dauphinoise

The start of a new year often signals detox and diets for most by around these parts I’m all about moderation.   Whilst I may have indulged a tad over the last month I haven’t gone overboard as I try to make sure every meal I cook is packed with veg, so the naughty treats balance out!  But back to today’s recipe. It’s not that healthy but it’s a yummy addition to a meat and veg dinner – dauphinoise sweet potatoes.   Creamy, peppery baked potatoes- the ideal accompaniment to a lamb chop or a veggie bake. This was much first attempt and whilst it turned out really nicely, I’d make some amends time it, which I’ll share with you.   Ingredients  Sweet potatoes  Double cream Spinach  Milk  1 leek  Grated cheddar cheese  Salt, pepper and nutmeg to season  Coconut oil I followed a Lucy B tcoconut oil recipe I actually saw on Instagram, and it worked a treat!  You can find the full recipe here –  https://www.lucybee.co/coconut-oil-recipes/index/sweet-potato-dauphinois-with-rosemary/
