Home // Dear Diary

After a series of sponsored posts and beauty blogs, I wanted to bring you another site ‘down and write’ kinda post. I can’t believe we’re into December tomorrow. The year has flown over in a blur with this year’s stand out moments being getting a new job and our dog, Molly. As we gear up for December and the many festive nights out, Christmas meals and parties I’ve enjoyed being a home bird these past few weeks. We decided to go for a pub lunch last weekend. Something we did every weekend when we both lived at home but very rarely since living together so we went for lunch at the Saracens Head in Halsall. It was a perfectly cold, winters day so we had lunch and then headed home for a dog walk before it went dark. Perfect kinda Saturday. Last week I was kindly invited along to REX on Bold Street in Liverpool to attend their pop-up blogger evening for Kilner Jars. The store was so festive and sparkly. It’s such a magpie kinda …

Party // Easy Mocktail Recipes with Feelgood

December is nearly upon us and I’m already thinking about my much-needed time off over the festive season. But it’s not all mulled wine and mince pies as I’m actually working a lot so won’t be able to indulge in as much red wine and prosecco as I would like….which is why having a couple of fruity mocktail recipes in your arsenal is a godsend! I’ve collaborated with Feel Good drinks to create this post and prove how fun, tasty and colourful mocktails can be! I was so surprised by how many flavours are available in the range and I plan to enjoy fruity drinks without a dash of alcohol so I can join in the fun – without having to go to work with a hangover! Whilst the brand may focus on water-based drinks, it doesn’t mean mocktails can’t be fun too! Each flavour is suitably fruity too and so refreshing, so we had lots of fun sampling each flavour and creating pretty imagery to show to you guys how great the drinks are! …

Fashion // Met Quarter Xmas Preview

The big C isn’t too far away so now’s the time to start getting excited, planning when to decorate the tree and discover just how many presents you need. Or, it’s a time to starting thinking about what to add to your own wishlist to unwrap on the 25th December! Back in October, I was invited along to attend the Met Quarter press day to have a sneaky peek at their upcoming Christmas stock! The Met Quarter is a luxury shopping centre based in the centre of Liverpool, but sadly it’s one I very rarely venture too. With a variety of high street and designer brands housed under one stylish roof, I was excited to see what MAC Cosmetics were planning to release in time for Christmas and has a nosey at the made.com pop-up shop so I could just imagine actually buying a new sofa and you know, furniture that actually matches for my house… Anyway, back to the event! I arrived at the showroom space in the Met Quarter to be greeted by the PR …

Home // Neal & Wolf Indulgence Candle

I’m such a fan of candles in my home, especially at this time of year. Now it’s dark when I get home from work, I love to get changed into my comfy clothes (leggings and an oversized tee), get snuggly on the sofa whilst dinner is cooking and light some candles. Anything that creates a gentle scent in my living room is a winner with me and this Neal & Wolf Elysian candle is designed to help you relax and unwind by introducing gentle scents of mandarin and orange blossom to my home. If you’re trying to decide what type of scent is best suited to your home, Neal & Wolf have created four relaxation guides on their blog. The Elysian candle is taken from the Feng Shui range and it’s designed to enhance relaxing elements in your home. I initially began to burn this candle in my dining room over the weekend, as it was ideal to light as I sat reading magazines as it went dark. But once I realised the scent has some serious …

Interiors // Creating a home

Personal style within your home I think is something that comes from the people within it. I often look on Instagram and Pinterest for #inspo on up-cycling our very old, and quite frankly, hand-me-down furniture and new ways we can update our rented house. But I think what’s most important is creating memories and a space in which you feel truly comfortable. Now, I actually think it’s quite ironic that I’m writing this post as my boyfriend and I couldn’t have more opposite tastes. Whilst some men don’t really have an opinion on interiors, mine does and this is where it can go wrong! In his words, he likes our home to be ‘minimalistic, white and sterile’. The first bit I can get on board with but sterile? No thanks, we don’t live in a hospital! I’m all about character. I like some kinds of minimal but also for a house to look lived in and cosy. I’d also love a gallery wall as I adore the idea of having old childhood photos and pictures …

Review // Ragdale Hall, Hydro Spa & Hotel

Before I even begin I will start with a warning – this post is photo heavy. Ragdale Hall was so beautifully decorated, I couldn’t resist getting snap happy to show you just how amazing it was! Ragdale Hall is situated at the very heart of the country, making it a 2 and a half hour trip from Lancashire. It may seem like quite a way to travel for a spa trip, but this place is so much more than a spa. Housed in an old building, dating back over 250 years, Ragdale Hall has seen may makeovers as the decades roll over, and it proved its worth and the long drive! Billed as a Health, Hydro and Thermal Spa, Ragdale is the perfect spot for relaxation and rejuvenation. I was very kindly invited to come along for an overnight stay, bringing my Mum too as she loves a spa trip as much as me. I have a feeling this post could be very long so I’ll bring it up into easy, bitesize chunks! Food  We arrived …

Beauty // Glitter Smokey Eye Makeup

Sometimes it’s nice to have a root through your makeup collection and rediscover old favourites. And that was exactly what I did when packing for my recent trip to Ragdale Hall. I’m really enjoying dark, opulent looks at the minute – vampy red lips and a bold eye. I know, I know, the MUA’s say one or the other but at this time of year I find myself reaching for the both. I love this eyeshadow quad palette I was very kindly gifted from the brand Me Me Me last year. The mix of pinky red shades and metallic golds work so well together when blended and it’s my newly discovered fave. You can use it to create a variety of eye looks – I’m loving using the berry shades across the lid to build up to a dramatic eye and then add a touch of bronze in the crease to add a bit of sparkle. I’m using it most weekend and I can’t wait to see their latest releases for this season. And like I …

Review // Il Forno, Duke Street, Liverpool

When we’re choosing new restaurants to try in the city, Italian rarely makes it past the consideration phase. With so many new and old haunts in the L1 postcode, when an invite to sample the pre-theatre menu arrived, we popped along after a cinema trip to see Doctor Strange (which, FYI was awesome!). As the title suggests II Forno Liverpool is tucked away on Duke Street making it the perfect  distance from the shops and the bars. The pre-theatre menu is available daily between 5 and 7pm so it’s perfect if you’re wanting something to eat after a shopping trip or before a few drinks on Seel Street. Choose two courses for £13.95 or three courses for £15.95, every day between 5-7pm if you’re feeling indulgent! The menu is packed with variety and caters for both vegan and vegetarian diets too with the inclusion of vegan cheeses and a mix of flavours. The restaurant was a lot fancier than I was expecting and I felt quite underdressed in boots and jeans for a Saturday night! Tables …

Online // Sharing Blogger Love

When I began blogging, some crazy 6 years ago now, blogging was quite an underground hobby. Having initially started Musings of Ruby, as this very site was named back then due to my bright red hair, the blogging community was small, fierce and loyal across social media. But nothing compared to what it is now, and how it’s grown since so many blogs have developed over the years and come to fruition in the last 18 months. I’ve read and followed blogs and their owners for many years and can identify different stages of a bloggers life by their style at the time or even their blog layout. So this post is to join the masses of others that share the blogger love and I’m gonna shout about my long-time and somewhat new fave bloggers! My favourite bloggers vary in niche – from fashion, food to lifestyle. All covering the many different topics I love to read about! Hannah Gale I’ve been reading Hannah’s blog for the last maybe 2 years now (has she been …

Beauty //  New Purchases ft Urban Decay Kat Von D

Okay so I’ve gotta put it out there before I even start this post. … I frickin’ love these photos! I’m really trying to play around with backgrounds to make my blog photos look a bit more interesting and I just adore the black and white theme on this post! It’s been a while since I last updated the contents of my make-up bag and after a couple of fun blogger events I’ve restocked and I’m now the proud owner of a Kat Von D eyeliner and two Urban Decay Vice lipsticks. Both iconic brands known for their bold colours and gorgeous, lasting products! I’ve heard and read so many amazing reviews of the Kat Von D tattoo liner and since the brand launched in Debenhams, I couldn’t wait to head along to the stand and take a peek at the collection. I was so kindly gifted this eyeliner after the Debenhams glamoween event I blogged about on the weekend and I couldn’t be happier. I wore it on the weekend and everything from the …
