Food // Homemade Beetroot Houmous

Since I changed jobs last month I’ve had to take my breakfast and lunch to work each day, and sometimes I get bored of my options. I love beetroot houmous but we’re nowhere near a large supermarket, so I decided to attempt to make my own! I purchased all the ingredients in Aldi, so in total a weeks portion cost less than £3.50 to make! So what do you need? 2 tins of chickpeas Garlic cloves Olive oil 2 beetroot Lemon juice to flavour I chucked all my ingredients in a food processor, added a healthy glug of olive oil and blend till smooth. Serve with pitta bread – delicious!

Food // La Tasca, Liverpool Review

Last week I was invited to visit the newly refurbished La Tasca based just off Queen Square in Liverpool. To be completely honest I hadn’t been to a La Tasca in quite some years, but I’m loving attending blogger events in the city so I headed down with my boyfriend in tow. We arrived at the restaurant at 6pm and I was impressed by the large outside dining space they have. It was a warm evening and with many of the outside tables occupied, it looked really lovely.Once greeted by the helpful PR team we were shown to our table, handily located in front of the kitchen so we could watch the chefs at work. The staff were lovely and so knowledgeable about the food, drinks and the history of the restaurant. It was really interesting to hear that the chain cater to two types of clientele – those who want to grab a quick bite but also they’ve began to turn their hand to fine dining. Food // Pesto Gnocchi Pasta Bake

As much as I love cooking, some days I can’t be bothered but I still want to eat semi-healthily. So this is when I tend to batch cook a meal that will last us a few meals. I decided I fancied pesto and gnocchi and the pesto gnocchi pasta bake was born!      Every vegetable in my fridge was thrown in a pan with a spritz of fry light – I’m talkin’ red onion, leeks, courgettes, spinach, spring onions, mushrooms and peppers. I blitzed up some pesto, stirred in a smidge of cream cheese and then assembled in my oven proof dish.  Delicious!        

Food // Wahaca, Liverpool

Yesterday I had my first works social in my new job. The sun was shining and after a long 4 day week, as soon as the clock hit 4.30 we downed tools and headed to Wahaca.  I’d heard good things about the chain and I’m a huge fan of Mexican food so it already got a thumbs up from me. Plus we were ready for a cocktail or 3!          The Liverpool branch is deceptively big, spanning three floors plus a roof terrace. When we arrived around 5.30 a couple of tables were taken, but they had space for our party of 6.  The menu was a lot bigger than I expected too with a choice of smaller, tapas-style dishes or big ears – meals for one basically.  I opted for 2 of the smaller dishes plus a side. How-To // Dress Your Table for a BBQ

Summer seems to have surprised us once again with glorious weather and the Bank Holiday weekend was the perfect time to throw a BBQ! I love taking care when it comes to my home decorations and getting spendy in pound shops on cute tableware is currently my jam. Dining al fresco in the sunshine is so lovely but sometimes I find my outdoor tables (aka decorating tables) aren’t large enough to fit a feast on – and in that case, it’s time to take the party indoors and set up camp on the dining room table.    I decided on a blue table theme with a matching tablecloth, napkins and cute tealights to add some interest to my table. I’m really into wooden table wear too; ever since I snapped up my new salad bowl in Dunelm Mill a couple of weeks ago.
