Year: 2016

Blogging // 2016 – A Year in Posts

I can’t believe we’re just a day away from the end of 2016. Whilst this year has been a shitter for many, with politics being all over the news on both sides of the Atlantic and more celebrity deaths than we care to remember, there has been some good times thrown in for good measure. Personally, the year started horrifically, lay in a hospital bed for the best part of two weeks thanks to a bad bout of tonsillitis and an ear infection. But, it did get better, I promise. A trip to Edinburgh, 10 days in Marrakech, getting a dog, changing jobs and my boyfriend passing his PGCE are all huge highlights. But, this blog has reaped rewards this year too. My job move to Liverpool opened doors for my space on the internet and after trying to improve my photography and generally ‘up’ my content, I think it paid off. I decided I wanted to specialise in food and beauty this year and with the Liverpool restaurant scene booming into action, I got …

Recipe // Vegetable Satay Noodles

Whilst we’re not out of the woods yet with the festive period continuing till we welcome in the new year, I don’t know about you but I’m so ready for a change at mealtimes. Out goes the meats, generous helpings of gravy and various types of potatoes and I’m ready for vegetables! My fridge is looking rather sparse at the minute, if you don’t include the various types of cheese and pate (I’ve always got room for you camembert!) except for a couple of veggies knocking around in the chiller drawer. So in a bid to make a tasty yet super speedy meal for 2, I’m rustled up this – a veggie satay noodles dish! Ingredients Noodles – I use dried, egg noodles but it’s up to you 1 courgette 1 red pepper & 1 yellow pepper Half a punnet of chestnut mushrooms Peanut butter – smooth and crunchy Garlic & paprika to season Coconut oil to fry the veggies What’s the method? Well, like I said earlier, it’s really easy. Using up the last …

Beauty //  Stocking Fillers for Her

I’m still not quite sure how it’s happened but this year I’ve managed to buy all my presents and get them wrapped with two weeks to go to the big day. I think it helps that this year I had an idea of what I wanted to get people and after a bit of saving beforehand I can treat my friends and family this year. Seeing as I had the big gifts covered from  quite early on this month I thought I’d create a smaller gift guide focusing on stocking fillers. The little presents that we forget about but appreciate just the same, however, big or small. These are perfect for every girl/woman in your life whether it’s a treat for your Secret Santa, your mum, sister, mother in law or best friend! When I’m picking out stocking fillers I tend to head straight for Superdrug as they’ve got everything under one roof. Simply Pure Hydrating Serum from Superdrug I don’t think you can go wrong with skincare essentials for anyone. Whether you pick up …

Life // Five Happy Things

I feel like chatty posts are my jam at the minute and after a month of a lot of sponsored content, I’m happy to chat about the things I’m loving in diary stye entries. I’m gonna put it out there that I don’t have any festive content planned yet which I really should think about…. but I have a few post ideas in the pipeline so stay tuned!  With no posts scheduled for the rest of the month yer I thought I’d share my five happy things from recent times.   Haircare // Phillip Kingsley Body Building Conditioner            2. Food // The first Christmas dinner of the season on the annual Christmas meal with the girls.          3. Brunch // My mum and I went Christmas shopping in Liverpool this weekend, but before we braved the shops we headed to East Avenue Bakehouse on Bold Street for brunch. Delicious!           4. Getting my nails did // I’m one of those girls who has routine …

Home // Dear Diary

After a series of sponsored posts and beauty blogs, I wanted to bring you another site ‘down and write’ kinda post. I can’t believe we’re into December tomorrow. The year has flown over in a blur with this year’s stand out moments being getting a new job and our dog, Molly. As we gear up for December and the many festive nights out, Christmas meals and parties I’ve enjoyed being a home bird these past few weeks. We decided to go for a pub lunch last weekend. Something we did every weekend when we both lived at home but very rarely since living together so we went for lunch at the Saracens Head in Halsall. It was a perfectly cold, winters day so we had lunch and then headed home for a dog walk before it went dark. Perfect kinda Saturday. Last week I was kindly invited along to REX on Bold Street in Liverpool to attend their pop-up blogger evening for Kilner Jars. The store was so festive and sparkly. It’s such a magpie kinda …

Party // Easy Mocktail Recipes with Feelgood

December is nearly upon us and I’m already thinking about my much-needed time off over the festive season. But it’s not all mulled wine and mince pies as I’m actually working a lot so won’t be able to indulge in as much red wine and prosecco as I would like….which is why having a couple of fruity mocktail recipes in your arsenal is a godsend! I’ve collaborated with Feel Good drinks to create this post and prove how fun, tasty and colourful mocktails can be! I was so surprised by how many flavours are available in the range and I plan to enjoy fruity drinks without a dash of alcohol so I can join in the fun – without having to go to work with a hangover! Whilst the brand may focus on water-based drinks, it doesn’t mean mocktails can’t be fun too! Each flavour is suitably fruity too and so refreshing, so we had lots of fun sampling each flavour and creating pretty imagery to show to you guys how great the drinks are! …

Fashion // Met Quarter Xmas Preview

The big C isn’t too far away so now’s the time to start getting excited, planning when to decorate the tree and discover just how many presents you need. Or, it’s a time to starting thinking about what to add to your own wishlist to unwrap on the 25th December! Back in October, I was invited along to attend the Met Quarter press day to have a sneaky peek at their upcoming Christmas stock! The Met Quarter is a luxury shopping centre based in the centre of Liverpool, but sadly it’s one I very rarely venture too. With a variety of high street and designer brands housed under one stylish roof, I was excited to see what MAC Cosmetics were planning to release in time for Christmas and has a nosey at the made.com pop-up shop so I could just imagine actually buying a new sofa and you know, furniture that actually matches for my house… Anyway, back to the event! I arrived at the showroom space in the Met Quarter to be greeted by the PR …

Home // Neal & Wolf Indulgence Candle

I’m such a fan of candles in my home, especially at this time of year. Now it’s dark when I get home from work, I love to get changed into my comfy clothes (leggings and an oversized tee), get snuggly on the sofa whilst dinner is cooking and light some candles. Anything that creates a gentle scent in my living room is a winner with me and this Neal & Wolf Elysian candle is designed to help you relax and unwind by introducing gentle scents of mandarin and orange blossom to my home. If you’re trying to decide what type of scent is best suited to your home, Neal & Wolf have created four relaxation guides on their blog. The Elysian candle is taken from the Feng Shui range and it’s designed to enhance relaxing elements in your home. I initially began to burn this candle in my dining room over the weekend, as it was ideal to light as I sat reading magazines as it went dark. But once I realised the scent has some serious …

Interiors // Creating a home

Personal style within your home I think is something that comes from the people within it. I often look on Instagram and Pinterest for #inspo on up-cycling our very old, and quite frankly, hand-me-down furniture and new ways we can update our rented house. But I think what’s most important is creating memories and a space in which you feel truly comfortable. Now, I actually think it’s quite ironic that I’m writing this post as my boyfriend and I couldn’t have more opposite tastes. Whilst some men don’t really have an opinion on interiors, mine does and this is where it can go wrong! In his words, he likes our home to be ‘minimalistic, white and sterile’. The first bit I can get on board with but sterile? No thanks, we don’t live in a hospital! I’m all about character. I like some kinds of minimal but also for a house to look lived in and cosy. I’d also love a gallery wall as I adore the idea of having old childhood photos and pictures …

Review // Ragdale Hall, Hydro Spa & Hotel

Before I even begin I will start with a warning – this post is photo heavy. Ragdale Hall was so beautifully decorated, I couldn’t resist getting snap happy to show you just how amazing it was! Ragdale Hall is situated at the very heart of the country, making it a 2 and a half hour trip from Lancashire. It may seem like quite a way to travel for a spa trip, but this place is so much more than a spa. Housed in an old building, dating back over 250 years, Ragdale Hall has seen may makeovers as the decades roll over, and it proved its worth and the long drive! Billed as a Health, Hydro and Thermal Spa, Ragdale is the perfect spot for relaxation and rejuvenation. I was very kindly invited to come along for an overnight stay, bringing my Mum too as she loves a spa trip as much as me. I have a feeling this post could be very long so I’ll bring it up into easy, bitesize chunks! Food  We arrived …
