Kiehl’s skincare: A first look

Last week I blogged about THE PRESS TENT BLOGGER EVENT Press Tent blogger event which I was lucky enough to attend. At the end of the evening, we were gifted with a rather lovely bag to take home and I was very excited to discover it contained a couple of Kiehl’s skincare samples.    Kiehl’s is one of those elusive brands that I ooohh and ahhhh over in the Selfridges beauty hall but I’ve never quite taken the next step to purchase.  So when I saw these little treats I was quite excited. First up was the line reducing serum which is really light and smelt lovely.     Next I tried ultra facial moisturiser. This is the one I was ohhh’ing over earlier. I know right. It feels so soft and is just what I want when I’ve had a face full of make up all day. I have quite oily/combination skin and this didn’t irritate it at all, which sometimes can be the case. I’m already considering putting a dent into my pay day …

The Press Tent Blogger Event

Last Wednesday I was lucky enough to be invited down to The Press Tent blogger event held for Manchester bloggers. Hosted at the super cool Elevator arts space at the Great Northern on Deansgate, there was an amazing turn out, range of cool brands and a lovely personalised touch from the Press Tent gang. I got to chat to TwinFace jewellery, twins who make gorgeous pieces of jewellery at tier kitchen table and decided to turn it into a business. I loved the delicate gold and ivory pieces. One website to check out this summer!      It was lovely to spot Holly from Rock on Ruby on Ruby, who had a beautiful range of gym wear and make up bags featuring the slogans the brand is best known for.  And I turned it a little bit of a fangirl when I spotted Emma from What Emma Did. Having read her blog for many years it was so nice to say hello and have a nosey at her simply gorgeous boutique collection of dresses.           It was …

Travel: Discovering Shoreditch

Last Sunday I boarded a Virgin pendalino and made my way down south for the day. Since finishing university 5 years ago it’s becoming harder and harder to gather all the girls in one place as we are so spread out. So we decided what better than a day spent in the big smoke?  We decided to head over to Shoreditch for the day. The sunshine came out to play and the weather was gorgeous for an afternoon of discovering Brick Lane, delicious cocktails in East London bars and a glass of Pimms on the embankment as the sun set.  Pretty sweet right?           Once we hit Shoreditch we found ourselves inside the Old Spitalfield Market. Food stalls galore, this is where we started to wish we hasn’t already eaten earlier at a Mexican restaurant!  And that was our day in the city in a nutshell. Now I better start thinking about train tickets for my next trip….

Foodies: Healthy Lunchbox Snacks

We are now half way through the year and the summer holidays are well under way. That said, I’m not one for crash diets and trying to lose weight in the quickest way possible or cutting out all my favorite things – I like carbs far too much! days. However, I’m quite laid back when it comes to my body image (read lazy) and would rather make small, yummy changes to my meals than starve for the sake of an instagram picture. I take my lunch to work each day as it stops me heading to the on-site canteen and indulging in chips and lots of other naughty but nice treats. I like to try and mix it up each day with salads, soup, wraps and bagels taking preference. I also like to round my lunch off properly with a packet of crips and some kind of snack bar. But lately I have been switching up my usual kit kat for a nakd protein bar. Nakd bars come in a variety of flavours from choc …

Beauty: In the nude…..

Lately I’m loving nudes. Hold your horses, we’re talking make up here. Lipstick, nails, eyeshadow. As summer appears to be once again making an appearance, I’m introducing the perfect finishing touches to my everyday look. This 17 lasting fix lipstick in blonde has a slight sheen, so I wear it both in the day for work and at night too. It’s my go-to when I’m going out for dinner. I picked this Rinmel lasting finish pro nail varnish up last week and it lives up to it’s 10 day wear promise. I’m so impressed, I’ve had it on a week now and so far, I’m chip free! Normally that’s unheard of! During my next shopping trip I’m so gonna pick up a couple more. And lastly my finishing touches are my favourite statement ring from Accessorise and these earrings I’ve had that long I have no idea where I got them! That’s my everyday finishing touches, with an emphasis on nudes. What’re yours?

Gigs: The Showhawk Duo/ Death Row Diner

A couple of Fridays ago, after many months of waiting, the boy and I took the day off work to go watch The a Showhawk Duo, do their thing. They’re an acoustic, 2-man band who cover rock, jazz and best of all, 90s dance tracks. They were playing at the Bierkeller in Liverpool and it was quite simply, fab! The atmosphere was ace and they really got the crowd going – so much so the place was up out of their seats and stood on the benches dancing along! We decided to try out the Death Row Diner beforehand. A dark, moody atmosphere teamed with boozy cocktails and yummy food, perfect right? I went for the buttermilk fried chicken burger with sweet potato fries whilst the Mr had the sirloin steak. We really couldn’t fault the food. Great service too, with the waiters advising me when I couldn’t choose between a handful of different dishes! It was a great day and I would reccomend checking out both The Showhawk Duo and the Death Row Diner …

Real Techniques brushes dupes

Over the Bank Holiday weekend I decided it was high time to invest in a new set of make-up brushes so I took to eBay.     eBay is a goldmine of beauty hacks at a fraction of the price. So when I decided to search for new brushes there was a ream to choose from.  Generally Real Techniques are the mother of amazing brushes but I’m trying not to spend too much and these were a fantastic alternative.    I got an eBay professional kabuki brush set pack of 10 for just £3.95 with free delivery. There are in a kabuki brush style so it’s really easy to apply foundation, highlighter and blend my eyeshadow.  For the last couple of months  I’ve had gel nails but I’ve decided to have a break and these two Essie and Barry M polishes are my favourite!

Current skincare routine

How are we in May already? The year is flying away, but I can’t complain as my favourite month of the year is underway. May brings my 27th birthday, a week of work, Foo Fighters and a surprise day out! But, before I continue to get carried away, one must always look her best on special occasions and that’s why today’s focus is firmly on skincare. This is a topic I’ve talked about again and again, but as another year is about to tick by, investing in my face is at the top of the agenda! I still swear by mecillar water, with Bioderma being my absolute favourite. I use it every night to take off my make-up, sometimes double cleansing if I’ve worn a heavy layer of foundation, such as Estee Lauder Double Wear. Next up is my new holy grail product – tea tree skin clearing toner from The Body Shop. It strips away any lasting patches of make up and just leaves my skin feeling so clean and fresh. For the last …
