Great expectations

Content. Happy. Those are the two words that best describe me right now. A boyfriend who makes me laugh, a job with great colleagues that I love and the best bunch of friends that I could wish for.  But sometimes we are left asking is that enough? For me it is. This has been questioned lately and I find myself on repeat, I’m happy. We all want to find happiness. Whether it’s opening your favourite bottle of wine, freshly cut flowers or time spent with loved ones, at the root of it all we can all benchmark our happiness.  Expectations, however are a funny thing. I’ve never been one to plan. I didn’t expect to change jobs 4 times in the last 12 months, I didnt plan on meeting someone who just puts a smile on my face and I didn’t anticipate saving to buy my own house in the next 18 months. Life is strange. There are those of us who want to tick off certain goals, which on one hand i do. I …

Bake Off: Chocolate Victoria sponge

If I knew you were coming I’d have baked a cake…Just as well I did then isn’t it! In a bid to get back on track with Slimming World after a couple of weeks of naughtiness, I’m reigning my snacking and syns in and starting again on the straight and narrow. But dieting doesn’t have to be all doom and gloom.Whilst I much prefer savoury to sweet, craving crisps and dibs and a huge ol’ glass of wine on the side come Friday night, every now and again it’s good to give in to chocolate cravings. So I baked a cake. But this was a cake with a difference. I substituted brown sugar for sweetener – Canderel. The lovely guys over at Canderel got in touch to see if I would be interested in putting the savour to the test and use it in a range of foods, other than a morning cuppa! My team at work were put to the ultimate taste test – what’s different about my cake? At first they were a …

Blogs V Magazines – What does the future hold?

It’s 5 years this year since I graduated with a degree in Magazine Journalism. The next line is going to sound so cheesy but I always wanted to write. When I was 8 I asked for a typewriter for Christmas, at 9 I got hooked on Girl Talk and Sneak magazine and from here I moved onto Sugar, Bliss and J17. During a  recent mass-tidy of my bedroom I discovered a couple of old issues of magazines, varying from when I was a lot younger and moving into my teens. I’ve always read magazines, waiting till Tuesday to get the next and I hope it’s a tradition that will always stick with me. However the industry has changed faces so many times in the past 10-15 years with blogs, just like mine, becoming content hubs for all things fashion, beauty, lifestyle and celebrity. Towards the end of high school it became my weekly schedule to stop by the local paper shop to pick up Heat magazine. I loved it for so many years and it …

Branded Lab PR Goodie Bags

On Wednesday I headed into Manchester after work to attend the Branded Lab PR event. It was held at the gorgeous Rosylee restaurant in the Northern Quarter. I have blogged about the event here and the brands that were in attendance, but today I’m here to talk about the amazing contents of the goody bag! Us bloggers were well and truly spoilt! Packed with make-up bits from Elf, Anatomicals, Avon (who I blogged about here!), So! body sprays, Lipcote and Fake Bake to name a few! As a lifestyle blogger first and foremost, it decided to dress-up my desk with fresh flowers and my Primarni vanilla and coconut candle and get snapping! I’ve always wanted to try the Anatomicals Puffy the Eye Bag Slayer under eye patches and they lived up to the hype. The packaging is so cute and I’m a sucker for pretty toiletries and these don’t look out of place sat on my make-up table! I used the Lipcote lipstick topper on Saturday night when I was out in Manchester with the girls. It …

Branded Lab PR SS15 Showcase

On Wednesday, once the clock turned to 5.30pm I was out of work and straight on a train into Manchester city centre for the gorgeous Branded Lab PR SS15 Showcase event. Held at the beautiful Rosylee Tea Room in the NQ, it was the perfect place to show us NW bloggers the floral prints, brightly coloured accessories and gorgeous going-out dresses we will be lusting after this season. The event itself was fantastically put together; gorgeous venue  and delicious cocktails and cake to boot! Events are just a great time to catch up with my fellow bloggers and talk clothes, make-up and instagram! My favourite brands in attendance were Ka Ka Couture who had some lovely co-ord sets with floral prints and Harriet Sanders bags, which were just beautiful. I fell in love right there and then with the bright orange clutch and the powder blue and mustard backpack. All perfect for sunny days! Branded Lab held a Style Challenge on the night too, asking us to select items from across the brands to make …
