Slimming World update – Week 3

I’m now three weeks into following the Slimming World plan. Ive decided to do it myself, attending the class to get weighed to ensure it’s accurate but skipping the group chats as I feel I’m doing well on my own. I decided to blog this to keep me on track and simply to highlight, it is that easy. I’ve still enjoyed desserts and alcohol, on moderation and within my syns. But upped my fruit and veg intake, cutting out snacks but enjoying meal prep and home cooking again. Three weeks in I’ve lost 5lbs. A nice slow but steady start. Showcasing it is a lifestyle change, not a quick fix. My friends, family and bf are really supportive and it hadn’t felt like too much of a transition. Hopefully this is just the start of a healthier me….

Preparation is the answer…

If you fail to prepare, you’re preparing to fail – a little saying that rings true when you’re trying to lose weight. Temptation is everywhere and this past week I’ve been away with work. That meant a cooked breakfast here, glass of wine there and one kitkat chunky later, the scales are refusing to budge. I have a set routine meaning I’m a Tupperware queen, taking my breakfast and lunches to work with me and having my evening meals planned out. But like I say, this week I relaxed, enjoyed myself and recognise now is the time to reign it back in. One of my guilty pleasures lately is stalking recipe ideas on The Body Coach’s Instagram page and then taking my weekly trip to Aldi to stock up fresh ingredients for the following seven days. Noodles, curries, risotto, pasta dishes and salads shall all appear on this very blog soon. Showcasing how quick, easy and, most importantly, cheap meal prep can be. So keep your eyes peeled for some recipe inspo heading your way…..

Recipe time: Butternut squash and sweet potato soup

Soups are fast, filling and super easy to make. What’s simpler than chucking a load of your favourite veggies together in a pan with stock to make a batch of the good stuff? On a recent trip to Aldi I picked up a butternut squash and thought it would be the perfect starting point for rustling up a panful of soup. I diced the squash, a sweet potato and half an onion. Throw in a knorr stock pot, season with salt and pepper and a tablespoon of creme fraiche, blend and viola! It has served two for the past couple of days and it certainly didn’t disappoint! Now, what kind of soup is next? I’m thinking homemade tomato…

Fast and filling lunchbox essentials

When you’re trying to eat well and steer away from temptation, it is best to pack yourself up a lunchbox packed with yummy treats to look forward to.Whether that’s whipping up leftovers from the night before, rustling up a salad or a tasty back of homemade soup – keeping on the straight and narrow can be simple if you do it right. If you fail to prepare, you’re prepared to fail so I tend to prep my packed lunch the night before. Soups are great as they are really easy to make, cheap thanks to Aldi and Lidl who sell an array of veggies at a quarter of the price of larger supermarkets. Last week I made a pot of mushroom soup which lasted three meals and this week I am enjoying butternut squash soup. Now, I’m a savoury girl all the way. Crisps, dips, snacky bits  I love them. But Aldi seem to have this niche covered thanks to their yummy, yet healthy snacks at the tills. Quinoa crisp breads, vegetable crisps and mixed fruits …

Food // Peanut Butter Chicken

Having been following the Slimming World plan for two weeks now, I think I am successfully incorporating it into my daily routine. Ensuring my diet is packed with fruit, veggies and snacks that fit within the daily allowance of sins and free food. My first weekly weigh-in brought a loss and I am determined to keep at it. Over the past couple of months I have rediscovered my love for cooking and using fresh ingredients to make yummy, tasty dishes that don’t require hours spent in the kitchen. On Friday night I tried out a recipe I had seen on Instagram. I follow The Body Coach, responsible for the 90 days plan. Something I can’t say I’m following but his ‘Lean in 15’ meals look so simple. I tried out the Peanut Butter Chicken recipe, but made a couple of amends to ensure it was packed with free foods from the SW plan, without compromising on flavour! I decided to cook my chicken with baby corn and mange tout, served on a bed of dried noodles. It …

Golden Globes: Who wins best dressed?

The Golden Globes took place yesterday and along with the majority of my Twitter feed, the dresses have been judged and the best dressed ladies of the evening have been chosen. Having scanned through as many pictures as I can, I hereby conclude Sienna Miller, Emily Blunt, JLO and my ultimate girl crush, Emma Stone as my favourites. Nude and blush tones are a great prediction for the season ahead, whilst Emma’s trouser combo stood out in the sea of full-length gowns! Who wins your best dressed gong?

The Saturdays – The next girl group to hit the dust?

Frankie Bridge, one fifth of The Saturdays announced she is pregnant with her second child last week and this once again has left fans wondering if this is the end of the girl group. The band seem to working on a rota basis deciding which member can fall pregnant next it seems. Rochelle has had a baby and now  both Una and Frankie are pregnant with their second children. So, could this be the end? Rochelle Humes is making a name for herself thanks to a clothing range at Very!, a presenting career with husband, ex-JLS member Marvin and as a panellist on BBC3 show ‘Don’t Sweat the Small Stuff’. Whilst Mollie King has a clothing range with Oasis and both Una and Vanessa regularly frequent the Daily Fail pages. The news of Frankie’s pregnancy came just a week before the start of the Strictly Come Dancing tour and just weeks after she made it to the final of the series. The band released their Greatest Hits back in August last year and a tour followed in …

Celebrity workout DVDs: Worth the investment?

Charlotte Crosby, known best for her residency in the Geordie Shore household often makes her way into the weekly mags, but recently she has been hitting the news for a totally different reason – her epic weight loss. Now, before I get into this post I must stress my opinion doesn’t come from that of a keyboard warrior. More from a bemused point of view, following the trend of celebrity workout DVDs hitting the shelves every January and whether they are selling us unattainable results or a path that should be followed. Viewers of the MTV show will know that Charlotte’s weight has fluctuated over the past couple of years but in December, Charlotte unveiled her petite size 6/8 body and her new 3 minute belly blitz DVD to boot. Her exercise plan and food swaps have been provided in many of the weekly magazines, but is this a realistic representation of achieving a healthy lifestyle? The old saying goes that it takes one months to make a habit and one month to break. Celebrities such as …

Easy peasy breakfast ideas

Last Wednesday I took the plunge and joined my local Slimming World group. A couple of friends of mine have joined over the last six months and I thought I would give it a go. In terms of my weight I would like to lose half a stone ideally, nothing too drastic. But, I want to find healthy alternatives to many of my favourite meals and redefine my eating habits. Currently I’m about a week in, having followed the free 7 day plan on the website from last Sunday. I’m really enjoying incorporating more fruit and veg into my daily routine and breakfast is fast becoming my favourite meal of the day. The plan is simple to follow and I have been enjoying Weetabix minis which are classed as one of my two Healthy Extra options. Topped with blueberry and cranberry linseed and fresh blueberries, it does keep me full till lunch. I enjoy it with a 20g helping of semi-skimmed milk, my second Healthy Extra. I buy all my ingredients from Lidl and Aldi, …

Kylie Jenner – The cool kid on the block

Kylie Jenner. The youngest of the Kardashian/Jenner clan is making waves on social media thanks to her babein’ Insta pics of the lips, the boobs and the stand-out green hair and I am loving it. When the Kardashians hit our screens our screens  back in 2007, the air time was firmly focused on the older three, however it’s time to pave the way for the younger Jenners sisters to emerge. Whilst Kendall strides ahead, taking the fashion glitterati by storm on the catwalk,  Kylie is the sister to take note of. Khloe Kardashian has for many years been my favourite sister by far. No nonsense, sassy and speaking up when necessary, she makes Kim and Kourt look pale in comparison and Kylie is fabulously following in her footsteps. The firm friendship between the two is often displayed on Instagram. Complete with cliquey pictures of the two, minus the rest, my favorite two have united and Kylizzle and KoKo are on the rise. Kylie has denied any cosmetic enhancements but those lips can’t be missed and …
