Back in January Leanne from Second Time Mummy asked if I fancied taking part in a blogger cycle relay aka Team Honk for Sport Relief. I don’t do a whole lot of exercise and tend to dodge the gym quite a lot so thought it would be a good way to get a little more active and as my leg would be in my local area it seemed pretty straight forward. So fast forward a couple of months to our sunniest day of the year so far and D-Day- Sunday 9th March. Off I went on my old childhood bike with padded trousers and backpack in tow to Standish to collect the ribbon decorated baton!
#TeamHonkRelay is a person to person relay from Land’s End to John O’Groats, a route of nearly 3,000 miles involving nearly 200 bloggers, plus their family and friends! I was the last leg of the relay on Sunday and received the baton from Wendy who blogs over at Daisies and Pie and had walked from Wigan to Standish.
I then cycled from Standish, along the Leeds Liverpool canal to meet Leanne with the baton and banner at Burscough. All in all, my leg of the journey was just over 10 miles which was hard work but really rewarding. The appearance of the sunshine made the whole thing a lot easier too!
As one of the biggest fundraising events, Sport Relief brings the entire nation together to get active raise cash and change lives. The money raised by the public is spent by Comic Relief to help transform the lives of some of the poorest and most disadvantaged people both at home in the UK and across the world, so a big well done to everyone involved in Team Honk!
I managed to complete my leg in just over 3 hours and have aching legs and a sore bottom, but feel totally amazed and proud that I managed it, especially as its for such a worthy cause and I got a real insight into such a lovely blogging community right on my door step too. Thanks for all the words of encouragement and tweets on Sunday, sometimes a couple of words can go a long way!
