So with the clocks due to change soon and darker nights setting in a lot earlier, it seems Winter is on its way. Despite it only being the 4th October, our Christmas do at work has already been booked and the thought of finding party dresses is on the agenda! Just how many times have you had to resort to last-minute panic buying a new weekend outfit, ending up with something you’re not entirely happy with but ‘will do’? This year, I plan to do things differently and get ahead of the Christmas party dress prep and ensure I end up with a cracker.
I have an image in my head of my perfect outfit and it is inspired by the red carpet goddesses of the 2013 Oscars. Nicole Kidman, Naomi Watts, Stacy Keibler and Halle Berry all wowed in sequin dresses and I plan on doing the exact same.
Finding a sequin dress in the run-up to Christmas shouldn’t be a difficult task as the sparkles do come out towards the end of the year, but I want one that will really make me stand out. The options are already plentiful, from budget to bank breaking, so here’s a few of my top choices and who knows, one of these might be the lucky contender.
If you have a big budget (lucky girl), then the Needle & Thread Geo Pearl Era Midi Dress is a stunning mid length option. The decadent black and gold styling is festive through and through and would transform you into Hollywood darling in seconds. As it is so detailed, I would opt for very minimal accessorising. Pretty, heeled black peep-toe shoes would be prefect with a nice clutch and statement ring. Any more could be overkill.
Looking at head to toe shimmer, River Island offer up this gorgeous Navy Sequin Open Back Maxi Dress. It is truly scene stealing and all eyes will be fixed on you when walking into any party. Again, keep the accessories minimal girls. With so much sequin going on, you don’t want to go overboard – perhaps some pretty high heel shoes, gold drop earrings and delicate bag?
If you want short and sassy, Frock and Frill have a gorgeous heavily sequined gold dress simply crying out for tanned legs. The neutral colouring will look great with pretty much any colour but I would advise elongating legs further with a good pair of healed boots. The shorter length of the dress will suit a nice ankle-length pair, something like Spy Love Buy’s Camille Block Heel Zip Ankle Boots
Now, it’s not very fashion forward of me to only consider dresses as an option as there are some great skirts and matching crop tops out there, but, for true Christmas opulence, I think the Unique Sequin Jumpsuit is a great option. Full length, backless, strappy and in a festive ruby, it ticks the Christmas wish list, although with a hefty price tag, I should have started saving last Christmas!
