Month: January 2013

My Stationary Fix

I can’t believe its the end of January 13 already. This month has kinda dragged but kinda flown for me, an odd one but quite a good month all in all. However, that’s not what I’m here to talk about on this fine Thursday eve. I have something to get off my chest. I heart stationary. There I’ve said it, phew. Notebooks, pens, folders, staplers- my desk at work looks like a corner of Partners (RIP chidhood fave shop). Papers, countless notepads, an assortment of highlighters, post-it’s and such- I’m never happier than when I’m underlining and jotting things down in my planner. I’ve posted about ‘Not on the high street’ before, but that site continues to blow my mind with it’s oh so perfect bits and bobs that I just need! Below are a cute selection of my faves, that I need to add my ever-growing mess of a desk at work!

Dresses: Dressing to suit your shape

This year I made a decision to only buy when I really want something and try and shop for my figure and what suits, rather than what I think looks good on the rail. I have discovered lately I just love dresses with sleeves and I think they’re super flattering and great for day and night.  Along the same thread, ASOS have really become my go-to lately as they are super great at delivery and I know I can count on my parcel arriving on time and I trust the sizings which is what you need when you are 14, but every now and again have a go at getting into a 12- and at ASOS with success! Dressing for your shape My figure is typically a pear. Hips, bum, boobs. But, it’s took me a long time to figure out what suits. After daliances with bodycon dresses which are a strictly no-go area, sleeveless dresses which don’t always flatter and shorts are just a danger zone. ASOS Top Picks This is my current wishlist of …

My Dream Writer’s Space

When it comes to blog content, my inspiration for posts can never be pinned down to one ‘thing’. Articles I read in magazines, the newspaper, the Metro on the bus, news articles I catch on the 6 0’clock news. Conversations with friends, rediculous Facebook status updates, tweets that make me think. Having WordPress on my Blackberry is fantastic as it enables me to jot ideas down in drafts that I can always come back to later, but when it comes actually sitting down to write posts, I wish I had a desk, a study, a room to write if you will. I’ve wanted to write for as long as I can remember. When I was a little girl I asked for a typewriter for Christmas, and the day I opened it I was super excited. I re-wrote the old classics I grew up with, Enid Blyton, Roald Dahl and The Wizard of Oz. I dreamt of being an author and as I grew older that passion never faded. Studying Journalism at Uni taught me alot and working …

Blogger Cliche: Snow

Well, 7 days later and the snow continues. With a second snowfall yesterday evening and a white coating covering everything in sight, and yet a lovely sunny day I thought I would take the opportunity to share a couple of snaps I took on my way home last night and then earlier this morning.

Spiedi: Reality Bites

Heidi and Spencer, Spiedi, The Pratts. Since The Hils began as a Leguna Beach spin-off show on MTv in 2003, Heida Montag and Spencer Pratt have rarely left our screens, with her down-right ridonkulous antics taking centre stage. The star of the show was of course, LC, Lauren Conrad for non-Hills fans, and her fall-out with Heidi due to her relationship with Spencer defo drew up in the ratings on both sides of the pond. Speidi Heidi was the underdog with the viewers loving to hate Spencer. As the seasons progressed, Heidi and Lauren’s frienship iced over whilst Speidi was formed. The final nail in the coffin was Spencer starting a rumour about a supposed sex tape Lauren made and the ‘cast’ distanced away from the couple. Fast forward 10 years and they are making a splash in the CBB house. Having made it through to the last day and isolating themselves away from their housemates, including X Factor’s Rylan and Claire from Steps, as Rylan so affectionatally calls her, they are determind to win over …

Emma Stone covers W Magazine

Emma Stone. She’s Hollywood’s latest starlet and she is a girls’ girl. Funny, self-depriciating, dare I say, normal, we have grown to love her over the past few years as she’s climbed the career ladder and become a serious contender in the midst of many Hollywood actresses. Making us laugh in Superbad, making us want to be her in Crazy Stupid Love and making us cry in The Help, the girl knows how to covert the audience into firm Stone fans. From that infamous line that made all Gosling fans swoon (yes, I said swoon) about his rock-hard, hot as hell, albeit ‘photoshopped’ abs, being the real life girlfriend of Spideyman Andrew Stone and presenting an award at the recent Golden Globes, both guys and girls love Emma Stone. Sex Symbol? From her ever-changing hair colour and notoriously deep voice, Stone has sexed up her image and has graced the cover of the February 2013 issue of W Magazine and striped down to a strapless black bra to make the point well made. Talking about her latest film, Gangster …

Writing online copy: Hints and Tips

As you all know from my tagline I earn my crust by working as an Online Copywriter for a British retailer as part of the E-Commerce department and I gained my degree in Magazine Journalism in 2010. I love my job and talking fashion and home everyday, well what’s not to love, but sometimes you need that reassurance that the copy your writing is, well, right. So that said on Friday I took a trip to London Town, (and battled the snow!), to attend a one-day Online Copywriting course and thought it would be fitting to pass on a couple of the tips I learnt in the process. Audience Now, I know the opinion is divided when writing ‘How I got my job’ posts and ‘How to write online copy’, but I personally love them. I think it is a great idea to pass on industry knowledge to the blogging community, as every blogger comes from a different walk of life and may not be directly involved in the Marketing/PR/Social Media world, and that in itself I …

Family Recipes Made Easy

This past week has been such a write-off for me. A dreadful cold has taken over my life these past 4 days and resulted in a sick day on Friday and a weekend in recovery. Saturday was spent with my bestie and her baby which was perfect and a couple of glasses of white and a 3 course Indian thrown in to boot and today is my Mum’s birthday. She’s been to the Lowry in Salford to watch ‘Cats- The Musical’ with my Auntie and I’ve spent another lazy day indoors. There’s been so much chatter about Snow hitting us this weekend, I was actually shocked when the white stuff starting falling this afternoon, for once the trusty weatherman has got it right! So back to today so mark my Mum’s birthday I decided to cook tea and what better on a freezing cold day than a hearty Chicken Casserole? It is so easy to make and such a great winter warmer to fill up on. I’ve posted my recipe below if you fancy a go! Chicken Casserole- …

If you like it put a ring on it….

In the past couple of years my love of jewellery has really blossomed. I wear my trusty charm necklace everyday as I feel it makes me ‘me’. It doen’t hold much monetary value, but dear sentimental value instead.  I was given it on my 21st birthday by my bestie with a simple silver and gold heart and over the past 4 years I have added to it. A greek eye to ward off evil and offer protection, a Tinkerbell charm from my holiday to Florida with my 3 besties that same year and a graduation hat from my mum when that day came. But, other than that very necklace, my second love are rings. I have built up quite a collection of cocktail rings and a gorgeous jade stone vintage ring I got for Christmas and with January being a slow month, ya’know fashion wise, I have found myself looking at and lusting after jewellery instead…

Capsule Wardrobes: Yay or Nay

I’ll be the first to admit I have a serious penchant for shopping. Pretty dresses, everyday tees, skirts, it’s just oh so easy to pick up yet another grey marl t-shirt when I am making a once-over trip to New Look but as I get older I am constantly trying to re-evaluate my style and dress for my size 12/14 figure, so when I read about having a ‘capsule wardrobe’ of classic pieces I was intruiged. Items such as a staple leather (or pleather, come on I’m not made of money) jacket, fitted blazer, LDB, go-with-everything sandals and the elusive amazing fitting jeans should sit in every womans wardrobe but more often than not, as us girls shop so much, I don’t know about you but my wardrobe seems to follow trends rather than scream quality. Hangover Cures

So, we are 6 days into the New Year, every magazine tv ad and Facebook status is screaming ‘new year new me’. Can we just give it up already? The only way to a new you is by making a change, good or bad, and sticking to it. There is zero need for the song and dance, however I digress. We are 6 days in and I am hungover, so much for dry january. Now that’s not to say I haven’t made a couple of resolutions, but I am gonna keep them close to my chest as if they don’t work out, I won’t feel bad or obliged to complete. So this weekend has been a chilled one. After 2 whole days back at work, oh the hardship, I have mostly been watching CITV 30 years old skool weekend, Clueless, reading the monthly mags, and nursing todays hangover. Oh and this little beauty has kept me entertained….
